Peer Support Specialist
- $15 to $20 Hourly
- Part-Time
To provide peer support to clients with substance abuse recovery challenges. This
position promotes socialization, recovery, self-sufficiency, self-advocacy, development of natural
supports and maintenance of skills learned in other support services. The Certified Peer Support
Specialist will demonstrate a personal belief in recovery and a sincere interest in the welfare of persons
in recovery. In addition, the CPPS will complete detailed and accurate encounter notes and other notes
to document program measures including but not limited to Monthly Programmatic Report. The CPPSwill conduct peer support groups to assist persons enrolled in substance abuse treatment services to
realize their personal goals in treatment, employment, education and all other life changing
opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1)Have Peer Support Certification
2)Have a High school diploma or GED
3)Knowledge of support systems and community resources available to patients and their
significant others, with the ability to assist patients in the development and implementation of
an individualized and integrated Recovery Support Plan.
4)Engage appropriately with patients enrolled to support them in identifying strengths, existing
supports, and community resources, with the ability to develop and maintain effective and
ethical therapeutic relationships with individuals and groups.
5)Ability to accurately document information, with knowledge of computers, word processing and
data processing software.
6)Ability to carry out duties with moderate supervision.
7)Exhibits excellent written and oral communication, documentation and computer skills.
8)Initiative to take charge of unforeseen situations, solve problems and adjust to schedule
changes.
9)Satisfactory references from employers and/or professional peers.
10)Satisfactory criminal background check.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:
1)Engage client in counseling (Group/Individual)
2)Organize and lead individual and group social and recreational activities and provide other
opportunities to practice social skills
3)Email documentation of all services provided within 24 hours of service.
4)Provide guidance and encouragement to clients to actively participate in their own recovery by
means of case management.
5)Create and maintain a Resource Binder to show formulation of community and educational
partnerships
6)Network with Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Housing, Vocational support and other
supportive service agencies and organizations to build integrated support systems.
7)Ensure community linkage has been completed monthly for each client; providing information
regarding community relationships formed
8)Assist, teach, and support clients regarding activities of daily living, vocational skills, housing
access, maintaining financial supports, and building support networks.
9)Provide electronic monthly report to include a collective summary of client’s progress over past
30 days.
10)Share personal experiences of personal recover to build a sense of hope in the recovery and
supportive services.
11)Provide recovery and supportive services education for persons enrolled staff and family
members.
12)Collect data and provide feedback on goal attainment and other supportive service linkage
success to primary supervisor.
13)Ability to handle stressful situations and interact with others.
14)As necessary, provide means of transportation through appropriate agencies and/or assistance
with other supportive services needed for client to achieve recovery goal(s).
15)Collect data (long-term) and report on client follow up and retention success measures
16)Attend meetings, training functions, and other Peer Support functions as required
17)Safeguard confidential information
18)Comply with Treatment center policies.
19)Assist client with transition out of the program once goals have been met.
20)Perform other Peer related duties as assigned
21)Other duties as assigned
