Job Description

Position Title: Assistant Wrangler  

Location: Camp Ta-Man-a-Wis- Swan Valley, ID (TAM)  

Salary Range: $90 per day   

Dates: July 15th to August 6th, 2024  

*Glamp August 8th – August 19th, 4 Day per week  

Position Summary:   

The Assistant Wrangler is responsible for working with the horseback riding program in a manner that results in a fun, safe, and challenging experience. This individual will report to the Wrangler and follow the horse camp program within the framework of local and national policies and procedures and camping standards. The Assistant Wrangler will work closely with the Wrangler to ensure that all programs and activities are in compliance with GSUSA (Girl Scouts of the United States of America) and ACA (American Camp Association) standards.  

  

Using guidance from the CDC, American Camp Association, Girl Scouts of the USA, and local health districts we are taking every precaution, including property improvements and updated sanitation procedures, to keep everyone healthy and safe. We are looking for passionate camp staff who are committed to the safety of our camp staff and girls and who can adhere to our strict health and safety protocols.   

  

This position includes room and board for the length of employment.

Responsibilities:   

  • Responsible for feeding, grooming, saddling, bathing and exercise of horses.  

  • Maintain and care for all horse facilities and equipment.  

  • Ensure a positive atmosphere.  

  • Ensure campers are safe around horses.  

  • Deliver enriching and quality programing to campers.  

  • Teach and lead horse care skills and riding time.  

  • Train Camp Counselors and other staff to perform tasks as needed.  

  • Assist with development and implementation of horseback riding program that includes activities for campers of all ages and abilities. Oversee the implementation of our policies and procedures in compliance with the American Camp Association accreditation standards.  

  • Responsible for integrating the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and Girl Scout badges into the camp program.  

  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with families and visitors.  

  • Complete daily sanitation practices including cleaning and disinfecting surfaces.  

  • Ability to go without electronic devices while at camp (excluding medical necessary devices). Camp has no electricity at night.  

  • Other duties as assigned.  

  

Skills/ Qualifications:  

  • Must be at least 17 years old.  

  • Supervisory experience required.  

  • First Aid and CPR or higher certifications required.  

  • Wilderness First Responder certification is preferred.  

  • Experience teaching students of all ages.  

  • Hold Certification as instructor or equivalent experience. Minimum 2 years' experience.  

  • Ability to ascertain rider skill level to place riders into groups.  

  • Ability to supervisor/coach riding instructors in constructive and supportive manner.  

  • Ability to recognize concerns regarding horses, behavior, health etc.  

  • Physically able to handle horse, tack, feed, and horse equipment.  

  • Experience handling and riding horses.  

  • Must feel comfortable living in a rustic camp environment with very limited access to cell phone, electricity, and internet.   

  • Experience with the Girl Scout program is preferred.   

  • Willing to work long hours.  

  • Works well independently.  

  

*Glamp employment will be as general staff at $80 per day. Duties will vary. Glamp is the adult women's camp experience fund raising weekend.
