We are seeking a results-driven individual to join our growing organization as Senior NPI Engineer, in Carlsbad, California facility.

Job Summary:

The Senior NPI Engineer works with the development group in the mid-to-late design stages to create and sustain manufacturing processes, including final stage engineering activities such as design for manufacturability, assembly review, design updates, test development, build process development and improvement, etc. The Senior NPI Engineer is additionally responsible for meeting deliverables both related to enabling Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to continue with steady-state Production as well as for delivering units (beta, pre-production, etc.) as they work to complete design transfer from R&D into Production.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Drive multiple complex, and ambiguous projects as NPI project lead in the mid-to-late stages of the design process through to the later phases of manufacturing with minimal oversight.
  • Lead test and assembly fixture design, process design, and development in a hands-on rapid prototyping environment.
  • Become and act as the SME/technical supervisor, tracking work orders + material procurement for engineering/NPI/NPD builds, troubleshooting, and enabling Operations to take over as the project transfers into steady state production.
  • Be the primary customer advocate by regularly providing the customer with status updates as projects go through transfer processes.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing protocols and processes for instrumentation (Work Instructions, Test Instructions, Quality Manuals, etc.)
  • Create and maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets involving internal and external teams and prioritize based on the overall business and technical objectives.
  • Complete deliverables to progress projects through Gener8’s phase gate design and development process.
  • Work with the end customer and internal teams to scope, quote, and propose engineering activities (both new and additions to existing statements of work).

Experience Requirement:

  • Demonstrated ability to create new manufacturing processes, starting with product CAD.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and manage fabrication of part-holding fixtures using SolidWorks.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently under pressure and react quickly to changing priorities.
  • Ability to act as the direct and sole contact for customers in an engineering consultant context.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills- ability to critically review design and debug issues.
  • Direct experience with processes below:
    1. Laser Welding (specifically with plastics, or ability to transfer skillset from other materials)
    2. Ultrasonic Welding
    3. Heat Staking (melting filters/foils on to plastic parts)
  • 5+ years broad product experience in an Engineering role.
  • 3+ years working in ISO controlled environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (oral & written) in a team environment.

Background Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mechanical and or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Strong multidisciplinary technical experience working on complex injection molded consumables.
  • 7+ years broad product experience
  • Experience in personnel management, mentoring, evaluation, and resource planning.
  • Direct experience with processes below:
    1. Leak Testing
    2. Injection Molding (understanding impact of process parameters on part quality)
    3. Keyence IM/XM measurement systems
    4. Laser Cutters
    5. Ultrasonic Cleaning

Working Conditions:

Position may require gowning procedures for a controlled environment. Typically works around high-speed machinery, hydraulics, electric, and pneumatics requiring Lockout Tag out procedure to be followed and close attention given to safety. May require the use of eye protection, as needed and hearing protection when working in high noise level area. Additional PPE may be required, i.e. gloves, face masks, face shields, depending on the specific job being performed and company safety rules and regulations.
