JOB DESCRIPTION
Bridges to Readiness invites enthusiastic individuals to join our team as summer facilitators for small group math and reading/phonics sessions for 2nd - 6th grade students in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our tutors are instrumental in delivering customized academic support, helping students strengthen their math and reading skills, and fostering a positive attitude towards learning.
This position supports a four week summer program at Edison School of the Arts in Indianapolis. In addition to attending virtual training during the month of May, and on-site training on Sunday, June 2, tutors must be available to be onsite from 8:30am-2:30pm to facilitate sessions in reading, math, and/or electives, Mondays-Fridays from June 3 - June 28, 2024. A sample schedule is below, although is subject to change.
Tutors may be assigned to facilitate courses in reading and/or math in addition to our "community building" and "special topics" courses. Curriculum will be provided for all academic and community sessions. Special topics facilitators may be asked to support developing curriculum and materials lists based on your knowledge and expertise. Special topics anticipated align with the arts component of Edison and may include (but are not limited to) STEM, music, dance/movement, visual arts, or theater. Please indicate on your application if you have experience or interest in teaching in any of these areas.

TUTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead personalized tutoring sessions: Create an engaging, supportive online learning environment that encourages participation, understanding, and confidence in math and/or reading.
- Foster Understanding and Mastery: Help students grasp fundamental math and/or reading concepts and skills, guiding them through curriculum-aligned content and problem-solving strategies to enhance their understanding and application of mathematical and phonetic ideas.
- Collaborate and Communicate: Work closely with students to identify their current learning levels, set realistic goals, and monitor their progress. Maintain open communication with families, offering updates on students' achievements and advising on next steps for continued growth.
- Track student progress: Track and analyze students' performance data in math and reading to ensure a comprehensive overview of their development over time.
In addition to being available for the duration of the in-person program, we will expect you to attend training.
- Virtual Training: May 20-23, 2024 - late afternoon or evening sessions (1-2 hours of training each day)
- Virtual Training: May 29-31, 2024 - late afternoon or evening sessions (1-2 hours of training each day)
- In-person Training: June 2 (up to 7 hours of on-site training)
- Education: Current or previous teacher certification in Indiana or a state with similar requirements, or enrollment in a teacher preparation program is required
- Previous Work Experience: Ideal candidates will be current or prior K-8th grade teachers, with track records of success and deep content knowledge. Previous tutoring experience is strongly preferred.
- Background Check: All applicants will be required to pass a background check.
- Availability: You must be available for all training and the entirety of the camp. (Make-up training sessions may be offered in case of a conflict.)
- Competitive Compensation: Tutors will receive a stipend of $4,670 paid in 4 equal payments throughout the program. (Benefits are not included.)
- Training and Support: Every tutor goes through advanced training with one of our content area leaders. Standards-based training is one-of-a-kind and unique to Bridges to Readiness. You'll receive ongoing support to be as effective in your role as possible.
- Technology: Tutors are provided with an email account and access to Bridges to Readiness's materials and resources. (Note: tutors must provide their own computer or tablet for virtual training.)

- The process then includes a content exercise, an interview, reference checks, and an offer.
