Yard Operations Manager

Role Summary: The Yard Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the yard, including overseeing the loading and unloading of cargo, inventory, and other goods. As the Yard Operations Manager, you will coordinate with other departments to ensure the yard runs smoothly, meet customer expectations, and comply with safety regulations. You will be the face of the yard, providing excellent customer service and communicating effectively with customers, carriers, and other staff.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the yard, including scheduling, organizing, and supervising employees
- Develop and implement yard policies and procedures to ensure safety and compliance with safety and environmental regulations
- Managing stock control and inventory checks in partnership with Admin
- Communicate changes in an order fulfillment process to sales, customer service, and dispatch to ensure efficient workflow and timely delivery of materials
- Monitor and maintain the condition of equipment in the yard
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with vendors and customers
- Inspect inbound and outbound stock for quality assurance
- Provide oversight on equipment maintenance and required documented inspections.
- Assist in hiring and staffing levels with management.
- Train and supervise personnel in the yard
- Track and analyze yard performance metrics
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize yard operations
- Manage and resolve customer complaints and inquiries
- Operate within company policy and submit reports as requested
- Perform duties as requested by your supervisor

Minimum Job Qualifications
- Expertise in managing yard operations and personnel
- Ability to develop and implement operational systems and processes
- Proven experience in managing budgets and resources
- Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize workloads
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other related software
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents
- Ability to make decisions under pressure
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Proficiency in English
- Bi-lingual, Spanish speaking strongly preferred
Other Skills and Abilities
- Ability to routinely lift 25 - 75 lbs. without assistance
- Standing/walking continuously
- Frequently required to talk, see and hear
- Stooping/bending often
- Frequently required to use hands and feet to operate equipment
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment for this position is primarily outdoors in a yard setting, where exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind, is expected. The yard environment may involve uneven terrain, dust, and noise from machinery. Work may also be performed in the cage or cab of yard equipment, which may have some client control features. Personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety vests, eye protection and gloves, must be worn as required.
