Large Memphis law firm seeking an experienced, detail-oriented legal assistant or paralegal
Litigation responsibilities:
· Perform administrative and other legal duties under the supervision of a litigation or commercial attorney.
· Conduct legal research and initial case assessments.
· Handle filing and organization of case files.
· Gather and organize relevant information from a variety of sources.
· Liaise between clients and internal/external third parties.
· Preparation of monthly bills.
· Excellent organizational and planning skills.
Business/Corporate responsibilities:
Support an attorney, coordinate with clients, and handle various administrative tasks. Specific day-to-day duties may include:
· Assist in screening prospective clients.
· Recommend classification and estimate fees for engagement budget.
· Draft engagement agreement for review by attorney and client.
· Assist in managing attorney’s calendar and keeping track of deadlines.
· Documenting, word processing, and proofreading, as well as maintaining hard copy files and electronic records.
· Open new files and client matters and request conflict of interest checks.
· Provide service and support with complex transactional documents, correspondence and memoranda from rough draft, dictation or transcription.
· Gather materials and background research for review by attorney in application process.
· Assist with preparation and filing of entity-related papers.
· Order certificates of good standing and other papers from state authorities.
· Provide legal support for discovery in the case of disputes.
· Maintain and generate docket reports for attorneys.
· Create monthly status reports for matters that are in process.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 2 years' experience as a legal assistant or paralegal.
- Superb organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Excellent collaboration and communication abilities.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Multitasking skills with the ability to juggle deadlines for multiple clients at different stages of the filing processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
- Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute.
