POSITION: Traveling Superintendent
DEPARTMENT: Construction
REPORTS TO: General Superintendent and President
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Traveling Superintendent supervises the field construction of projects and ensures the work is completed on schedule, within budget, and quality meets or exceeds client expectations. The Traveling Superintendent manages all trades and daily activities related to the project. The Superintendent engages and communicates effectively with design professionals, consultants, and clients and effectively directs all subcontractors and other construction personnel in planning, coordinating, and safely executing work within the scope of the contract, budget, and schedule.
TRAVELING SUPERINTENDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
PRE-CONSTRUCTION
- The Traveling Superintendent will review and understand fully contract requirements to the Owner, drawings, specifications, subcontractor scopes of work, and other documents to establish the scope of work
- Execute project start-up tasks including:
- Complete job set-up checklist and coordinate with the Project Manager (PM) and Project Engineer (PE) to procure items necessary based on project specifics
- Document existing conditions or issues prior to any deliveries or work commencing
- Complete site logistics plan identifying job trailer location, barriers, fencing, signage, dumpster locations, material storage, entrances & exits, designated smoking areas, etc.
- Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) set up as required
- Complete ICRA / ILSM forms, when required
- Engage the local municipality to fully understand the inspection and certificate of occupancy process
- Orchestrate a plan from the beginning of construction to completion of the project including accurately coordinating project construction activities for scheduling purposes
PLANNING AND EXECUTION
- The Traveling Superintendent will advise the Project Manager of circumstances and issues that will have a significant impact on the project schedule
- Work with Project Team, track job progress and job costs (Time and Material work)
- Document issues and problems that have developed along with identification of the person(s) responsible for their resolution
- Daily Job site Progress Reporting:
- Ensure logs are completed accurately along with daily progress photos
- Verify the accuracy of drawing plan measurements of floors, walls, ceilings, etc.
- Identify discrepancies and take corrective action with the project team
TEAM AND PEER RELATIONSHIPS
- The Traveling Superintendent establishes effective working relationships with Owner, Owner’s Rep, Building Manager, Building Engineer, foremen, and subcontractors
- Chair weekly project construction meetings and discuss weekly work plans with subcontractors
- Meet daily with subcontractors to ensure daily schedule and tasks are understood
SAFETY
- The Traveling Superintendent ensures that the site is clean and organized
- Continually enforce safety policies and procedures to include PPE, fall enforcement, etc.
- Actively enforce all building regulations regarding noise, use of elevators, security, and tenant safety
- Maintain construction barriers (security, construction, dust, etc.)
- Perform daily walk-offs if required by Client
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Minimum of 5 years but preferably 10 years of project supervision experience in commercial, restaurant, retail, healthcare and/or industrial construction environments
· Extensive knowledge of scheduling, cost control and safety procedures
PREFERRED:
· OSHA 30 Hour Certification
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office
· Availability to travel as needed
