Travel Superintendent
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Travel Superintendent to oversee multiple construction projects across regions. The Travel Superintendent is responsible for ensuring safe, on-time, on-budget delivery while maintaining quality and client satisfaction. This role requires frequent travel to project sites, strong construction management expertise, and the ability to coordinate subcontractors, enforce safety and quality standards, and resolve field issues proactively. Ideal candidates will have a proven superintendent background in construction; experience in higher education, multifamily, or wood frame projects is a plus.
Key Responsibilities

  • Travel regularly to assigned project sites to provide on-site leadership, supervision, and hands-on problem solving.
  • Manage daily operations of construction sites including scheduling, sequencing, and coordination of trades and subcontractors to meet milestone dates.
  • Enforce project safety policies and OSHA regulations; conduct site safety inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Monitor project budgets, track labor and material costs, and work with project management to mitigate cost impacts and change orders.
  • Perform quality control inspections, verify work meets plans, specifications and industry standards, and coordinate corrective work as needed.
  • Prepare and submit daily/weekly site reports, progress updates, RFI tracking, and as-built documentation to project management and clients.
  • Coordinate with project managers, owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues, clarify drawings, and expedite submittals and approvals.
  • Mentor and direct assistant superintendents and field personnel; promote a collaborative culture focused on productivity and continuous improvement.
  • Support commissioning, punch list completion, closeout documentation, and turnover to owners, ensuring all deliverables are met.
  • Maintain accurate records of labor, equipment, materials, safety incidents, and subcontractor performance for reporting and lessons learned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on construction field experience, including prior superintendent or lead foreperson roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple sites or moving between projects on a travel schedule.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, read and interpret plans and specifications, and enforce quality standards.
  • Required: Construction experience. Nice-to-have: direct experience on Higher Education, Multifamily, and Wood Frame projects.
  • Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and procurement activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills with a client-focused mindset.
  • Proficient with construction management software, scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Procore, Buildertrend) and mobile reporting.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable travel availability; ability to travel frequently and stay overnight as required.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification preferred; first aid/CPR and other safety certifications a plus.
  • Associate or Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent field experience preferred.
