General Overview:

Under the Manager of Communications’ supervision, this position develops written communication materials, supports community outreach efforts, and creates and maintains positive media and government relations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. The County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADM) Board is an Equal Opportunity Employer. o Develops written communication materials for dissemination into the community, including newsletters, press releases, and marketing collateral.
o Supports Communications outreach efforts with special events representing the ADM Board. Some nights and weekends will be required per event schedules.
o Act as the communications representative at community taskforce meetings, working to coordinate the taskforce’s communications efforts and ensure that they meet best practices.
o Attend appropriate community-facing meetings to represent the ADM Board.
o Builds upon existing government and relations resources and maintains positive public messaging for the agency.
o Assist in the development of internal communications materials, including an agency-wide style guide.
o Collaborate with contracted graphic artist and appropriate vendors for development and dissemination of materials.
o Assist with special projects, with a specific focus on research. Particular attention will be paid to projects that focus on specific populations.
o Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance, and works overtime as required to meet workload demands.

Scope of Supervision:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Computer; copier; printer; telephone and other standard office equipment/software.

Community, County, State and ADM Board Service Provider agencies’ representatives, vendors, clients, general public.


Confidential Data:
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive records and treatment information, client files, and protected health information in compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and established procedures.


Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a typical office environment with minimal exposure to dirt and dust and occasional exposure to outdoor temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet and occasionally moderate with typical office sounds and conversations of others able to be heard throughout the office area.


Physical Demands / Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently exhibits manual dexterity when working on the computer and frequently talks and hears when working with job contacts. The employee frequently sits for extended periods of time and occasionally stands and walks. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision with the ability to adjust focus when typing and reading a computer screen and documents.

• Ability to safely and successfully perform the position’s essential duties and responsibilities consistent with ADA, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productive standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 15 pounds.

Must be able to hear, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Communications best practices; style guides (CMS and/or AP style guide preferred); grammar and documentation format (must be an expert in grammar and writing style); Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion best practices and local government a plus
Skills in: Microsoft Office 365 Suite (proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint required); virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams); verbal and written communication; Canva; editing and proofreading; graphic art and Adobe experience a plus
Abilities to: Promote good public relations; develop and maintain working relationships with diverse populations; handle sensitive information; maintain confidentiality; work independently; meet deadlines; maintain accurate records; work in a team environment


Qualifications:
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in, Technical Writing, or Communications/Marketing/Public Relations and minimum 3 years’ experience professional technical editor, writer, or communications (5+ years as a professional technical editor, writer, or communications professional will be considered equivalent).
• Experience writing public-facing materials for an organization
• Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.


Professional Certifications:
This position does not require a professional license or certification.


Licensure or certification requirements:
A valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance.
