Who We Serve: EMT serves organizations in the St. Louis, Missouri metro and surrounding areas, including neighboring areas in Illinois, as well as Cumberland, Maryland. These organizations include school districts, hospitals, doctor's offices, and more. We also transport individuals and families to and from appointments or simply when they need a ride.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategically-minded Controller to join our dynamic finance team. In this key leadership role, you will oversee our accounting operations, ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information, and drive fiscal responsibility and strategic initiatives that support our company's financial health and growth. Essential Functions:

  • Lead the finance department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
  • Act as a strategic partner to customer service, sales and marketing, HR, and operations.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and month-end close processes.
  • Manage the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, reports to shareholders, tax returns, and reports for government regulatory agencies.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, and report variances.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and take steps to enhance, where necessary, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Manage the cash flow of the company and maintain the integrity of funds, securities, and other valuable documents.
  • Coordinate audits and proper filing of tax returns.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Advise management on financial matters and on the potential impact of current and future laws
  • Other duties as assigned.



Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; Master's degree or MBA preferred
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Experience in the transportation and/or service industry is preferred

Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong experience with financial reporting, including external audit processes and regulatory reporting
  • Proven experience with financial statement preparation and consolidation
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks required
  • Proficient MS Office required, expert level with Excel
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent leadership abilities with experience in team management and development
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and policies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work closely with senior management and key stakeholders
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local financial regulations
  • Ability to manage cash flow and forecasting
  • Willingness to continuously improve the financial procedures and systems
  • Time management and organizational
