Job Description
Summary
We are seeking a Procurement Specialist who can obtain the best quality, service, and value for products and services through effective bidding, negotiation, and supplier management. The ideal candidate will identify manufacturing needs, select suppliers, negotiate contracts, and arrange delivery. This role involves purchasing a high volume and variety of parts, equipment, services, and materials.
Essential Functions
- Identify and recommend suppliers by investigating potential suppliers, and researching parts, equipment, machinery, services, and materials availability.
- Develop potential bidder lists and initiate formal requests for quotation or proposal.
- Conduct supplier site visits and evaluate them as to production capability, performance, delivery, and other key business criteria.
- Purchase parts, equipment, and materials by preparing requests for quotations and submitting purchase orders with approved suppliers.
- Evaluate bids for standard and non-standard items. Select suppliers for a variety of moderately complex or technical materials, supplies, or services and negotiate price, delivery, quality, and service.
- Monitor and evaluate supplier performance. Advise appropriate personnel of impending supplier failure to fulfill contractual agreements that may delay production or delivery.
- Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations, and engineering changes with suppliers.
- Prepare moderately complex reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Apply continuous improvement techniques and methods to internal processes and systems to increase efficiency and customer service and to reduce costs.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing trade publications, establishing networks, and/or participating in professional associations.
- Comply with federal, state, and aerospace industry regulations; ensure adherence to requirements and advise management on needed actions.
- Share specialized knowledge with others. Represent the company on specific projects. Mentor new employees. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Business Administration or related field.
- Experience which has provided both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through two or more years of increasingly responsible related purchasing experience.
- Certificate in Purchasing Management (CPM) or APICS desired.
- Knowledge of purchasing and negotiating methods, principles, and concepts.
- Knowledge of industry practices, general business operations, and policies.
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to procurement.
- Proficient in standard business application software and specialized purchasing and/or materials systems (e.g., electronic data interface (EDI) or manufacturing resource planning (MRP) systems).
