Position Summary: Responsible for meeting SSE Carpentry and quality goals through planning with leadership through the execution with the team. Responsible for the efficient planning and scheduling of personnel and equipment to complete work, reduce bottlenecks and streamline SSE’s final product. A supporter of LEAN workflow and continuous improvement as well as playing a key role in meeting the profitability and customer satisfaction goals.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Coordinates with Carpentry Shop Manager and Director of Manufacturing regarding projects, scope of work and facility goals on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of carpentry shop facilities and systems.
  • Contribute to the hands-on set up, cutting, assembly, fabrication and production of Woodshop projects as needed
  • Regularly check and maintain SSE ERP to effectively manage projects and planning
  • Large contributor to the creation of cut sheets, mechanical breakdowns, and project job packets for the Carpentry Shop with direction from and interaction with the Carpentry Shop Manager
  • Develop and/or help to develop layouts, designs and ideation as required by clients and co-workers
  • Break down drawings in CAD/CNC-based software to run on CNC equipment and to provide detailed specifications to staff
  • Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods; then select and oversee workers who complete construction projects.
  • Interpret and explain plans to administrative staff, and leadership
  • Communicate verbally to staff regularly to keep them up to date on workflow
  • Contributes to helping schedule for carpentry shop in harmony with the overall SSE Manufacturing Planning Team
  • Contributes to helping maintain visual management of projects/staffing with MDI and Pareto Charts in unison with Carpentry Shop Manager and Woodshop Staff
  • Awareness of the planning of paint and finishing needs of projects produced in the Carpentry Shop
  • Determine labor requirements and dispatch workers to appropriate projects based on skill-level and need
  • Inspect and double check projects for accuracy and oversee timely deliveries
  • Communicate delays or mistakes to supervisor and find ways to improve
  • Requisition supplies and materials to complete construction projects. Maintain materials in a way that we are always prepared while being mindful of overstocking
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates and progress and cost tracking reports
  • Confer with Director of Manufacturing, designers, and other professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures and construction and/or installation problems
  • Participation and involvement with departmental Time Tracking in accordance with Director of Finance and COO

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with additional projects on an as-needed basis.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Prior work experience required
  • LEAN manufacturing experience preferred
  • CNC programming experience preferred

  • Work Environment: This position regularly works in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is commensurate with an office site.

Expected Hours of Work/Travel: This is a full-time position in the Winston Salem office during regular business hours. Days and hours of work are dictated by the nature of the scope of work which can include long hours and weekend work.
