Position Description
Position Title: Accountant
Qualifications/Certification:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, preferred
2. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in governmental accounting, preferably in a public education setting
3. Proficiency in software applications (Microsoft Professional Office) and data systems management required
4. Proficiency with Google Suite
5. Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude
6. Displays high standards, sound judgment, accuracy and attentive to details
Reports To/Supervised By : Business Administrator
Responsibilities:
1. Perform the financial accounting and reporting for the school
2. Maintain a financial reporting system to allow for the analysis of funds used, funds provided, profit and expense distribution for the financial operation of the school
3. Set up the accounting calendar for the fiscal year
4. Analyze cash flow and prepare financial statements for all funds on a monthly basis
5. Ensure that all general journal, adjusting, accrual entries, and budget amendments are promptly entered and all budget codes are correct and accurate
6. Perform internal audit activity when requested by Business Administrator, Executive Director or Joint Operating Committee
7. Work with Payroll, Purchasing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and the Distribution Center to coordinate related tasks
8. Assist Business Administrator with the budgeting process as required
9. Monitor and account for all grants
10. Prepare accurate financial reports for all school funds, federal programs, state programs, and other projects approved by the Joint Operating Committee
11. Account for the receipt and expenditures of all school funds by maintaining general and subsidiary ledgers on an encumbrance basis with continuous internal auditing
12. Prepare school financial records for annual audits and special audits
13. Maintain a valid chart of accounts
14. Monitor and verify the wage and tax statements to employees and vendors
15. Manage school’s banking relationships, investment of school funds according to board policy, and bank account reconciliations
16. Administer school revenues via preparation of Member District billings and Excess Revenue calculations
17. Provide sound fiscal management and support services
18. Remit all debt service payments and monitor Trustee statements
19. Recommend internal changes in policy and procedures in order to remain compliant with regulations and best practices
20. Provide assistance to Adult Education’s Title IV funding program
21. Account for all Flexible Spending Account activity
22. Perform all accounting functions in accordance with all federal, state, GAAP, and GASB principals
23. Monitor the Fixed Asset Inventory System
Secondary/Related Responsibilities:
1. Maintain filing of all paperwork, electronic records and reports pertinent to position
2. Assist Distribution Center and Cafeteria operations in maintaining complete and accurate inventories
3. Perform other duties as assigned
