Residential Drill Instructor - Special Youth Program for the Department of Military Affairs
ATTENTION ALL VETERANS & MILITARY MEMBERS
(military experience encouraged but not required) *
We are looking for great team leaders to join this unique and crucial role with the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) in Starke, Florida, as a Residential Drill Instructor for one of the BEST YOUTH STATE PROGRAMS in the nation.
(Must be able to pass a level 2 background check and a drug screening test) **

DESCRIPTION for Residential Drill Instructor:
- Maintain accountability and provide crisis intervention for cadets when difficult situations occur.
- Responsible for the welfare and safety of cadets in assigned area of responsibility (platoon), ensuring they do not endanger themselves or others by negligence or misconduct.
- Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss cadet's progress, resolve behavioral, academic, and other problems, and to determine priorities for cadets and their resource needs.
- Educate cadets in the areas of physical fitness, personal hygiene, drill and ceremony, barracks maintenance, time management, teamwork, leadership, and fellowship.
- Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems.
- Maintain accurate and complete cadet records as required by laws, academy policies, and administrative regulations.
- Lead by example and mentoring cadets about what it means to display discipline and respect in life.
- Conduct preliminary inspections daily in preparation for regular inspections.
- Informally counsel cadet's performance weekly in (verbal and written), or as needed, in areas requiring improvement and heightened concentration.
- Teach and correct behavior using various means of physical exercises and team- building activities.
- Provide documentation and communication for supervisors and/or Academy administrators in the event of cadet misconduct or serious incidents.
- Enter information of cadets' progress into computerized database weekly.
- Plan and conduct orientation programs and group conferences to promote the adjustment of individuals to new life experiences, such as starting college.
- Evaluate students' or individuals' abilities, interests, and personality characteristics, using tests, records, interviews, or professional sources.
- Operate State owned and/or federally leased vehicles and golf carts.
- Observe students during classroom and play activities to evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Enforce academy policies and rules governing cadet behavior.
- Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
- Attend meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops, as required.
- Participate in recruitment and enrollment activities.
- Provide information for academy staff members involved in helping cadets and graduates identify and pursue opportunities.
- Promote extracurricular activities, such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
