Job Summary

The P&C Analytics Solutions team is one of the four pillars within Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Specialty Risk team. This pillar aims to add value to the underwriting, product, actuarial, portfolio management, and claim teams by providing solutions and services across the value chain. It is within the mandate of the team to be at the forefront of analytics understanding by driving the development of novel solutions through the combination of risk knowledge and data science capabilities.

We are seeking a motivated and client centric candidate with a passion for analytics and technology to join our highly skilled team. The Geospatial & Catastrophe Manager will work as a thought leader, subject matter expert, and technical data scientist to help design, develop, and support the data and analytics solutions. This unique position works closely with other portfolio risk managers, actuarial and product subject matter experts, and senior software engineers to brainstorm, research, design, and develop new capabilities and solutions, leveraging the latest technologies. These are and will continue to be industry leading commercial tools and solutions that support and enhance the work of ERM, portfolio and product analysts at Orion180 across the US.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain advanced GIS-based tools for modeling catastrophe risks. Use programming languages like Python and R to transform complex geographic data into usable insights.
  • Use analytical skills to interpret environmental and geographic data, providing actionable insights that support strategic decisions and risk management.
  • Manage client-focused projects in catastrophe analytics, ensuring teamwork across different functions while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Combine GIS data with actuarial science and insurance analytics to enhance predictive modeling and risk assessment for catastrophes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Advanced degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, or other quantitative fields like Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Experience: At least 5 years in project management, focusing on GIS and catastrophe modeling, preferably in the insurance industry.

Technical Skills:

  • GIS Tools: Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, and similar software.
  • Analytics and Reporting: Skilled in using SQL, Python, R, and data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Predictive Modeling: Experience in creating models for insurance operations focusing on catastrophes.
  • Advanced Analytics: Capable of applying complex analytics to enhance underwriting and claims processes related to catastrophes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Cloud Analytics: Experience with large data sets and spatial analysis in cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Data Science: Knowledge of data science and machine learning as applied to GIS and risk analysis.
  • Insurance Knowledge: Understanding of insurance products, reinsurance, and portfolio management, especially in areas prone to catastrophes.
Physical Demands

While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs). Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening, and reading, being able to lift light objects (<25lbs), and using standard office equipment such as a computer, printer, and phone. In addition, there is an occasional need to bend, twist or stoop to open/close cabinets, reach for files or other standard office-type objects.

Work Environment

The office environment is quiet and, in a temperature, controlled setting with random adjustments in noise or temperature due to conversations, unscheduled maintenance repairs to the building or its interior offices, or unpredictable situations due to weather or other acts beyond company control. An employee must be willing to work their regularly assigned work schedule for their duties and/or job responsibilities and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on the company/department needs, project requirements, or customer demands.
