Job Description
As a member of our Partner Services team, the Underwriting Team Lead will encompass team leader responsibilities for the Underwriting Assistants, oversight of the relationship between UAs and the programs in respect of all relevant technical processing activity and direct assistance of underwriting teams where required.

Essential Duties/Functions:
  • Support one program directly, act as floating resource for team to cover scheduled and unscheduled absences, and peak time demands. 
    • Assist in setting up files, rating, booking, and issuing for the business unit, together with soliciting underwriting information from agents and brokers. 
  • Complete a quarterly assessment of assigned unit and department performance. 
  • In collaboration with the manager and director, the Underwriting Team Lead will contribute to the development and maintenance of the SharePoint site to store and educate Underwriting Assistants on procedures and training material. 
  • Ongoing analysis of existing Underwriting Assistant staff in terms of productivity, workflow, roles, and structure to maximize efficiencies and improve service both internally and externally. 
  • Assist each unit manager in the implementation of new products in line with business plans. 
  • Assist in Process improvement initiatives and Audits.
  • Work with Program Managers and Digital teams to support business functions.
  • Ongoing training and development, i.e., ADP training.
  • Liaise with underwriting teams to assess the demand for underwriter assistants and manage the capacity of the team to meet this demand. 
  • Help to establish a consistent process for Underwriting Assistants and help embed this process across Underwriting Teams. 
  • Manage and respond to escalations from the team regarding the use of systems and of the underwriting process. 
  • Maintain and monitor the flow of work between underwriting teams and the program to ensure items and issues are addressed in a timely and accurate manner. 
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures and User Guides accurately reflect current procedures. 
  • Assist with the investigation and resolution of any data quality issues that are raised. 
  • Capacity - Establish and maintain knowledge of internal controls and all procedures relating to underwriting. 
  • Systems Expertise – To be a central point of expertise regarding the core underwriting system and how the data capture flows through to reporting. 
  • To assist the team in the preparation of statistics, analyses of business trends and new business proposals, for use within team and for reporting purposes to senior management. 
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree; OR 5+ years of experience in insurance underwriting.
  • Demonstrable team leader experience and skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint        
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the year.
  • Management background and Training Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting Construction Underwriting
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the commercial insurance industry and regulatory environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years Management experience with high performing teams
  • Minimum of 2 years Training experience
  • Knowledge of Project management software – like Monday.com
  • Familiarity with Policy Administration software - Origami
  • Availability to work Pacific (West Coast) business hours
You'd be an ideal fit if:
  • You have been an Underwriting Assistant for at least 3 years in Construction, with demonstrated experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • You have experience reviewing commercial insurance applications, policy review and processing submissions.
  • You have expertise in communicating with Brokers/Agents.
  • You live on the West Coast of the United States.

Additional Information
  • The salary range for this position is 90 to 95K.
  • This is a remote position. Planned, in-office activities may be required on occasion (typically 2-4x per year).
  • You must live in the United States and be authorized to work in the United States without requirement of employment sponsorship/visa.
