Job Description

Director of Quality - North America

Location: Greensboro, NC


Job Objective:

The successful Director of Quality will drive excellence in product quality across North American manufacturing facilities by leading proactive process improvement initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and establishing strong partnerships with internal teams and customers.


What the successful person will do in this role:

1. Spearhead the analysis of customer complaints and 2nd party data to identify and prioritize significant issues by manufacturing location.

2. Lead collaborative efforts with local leadership to swiftly implement short-term corrective actions, enhance quality control procedures, and conduct audits aimed at elevating customer satisfaction levels.

3. Maintain and enhance process capabilities, implementing proactive controls and optimizing process efficiency to effectively address identified issues and prevent recurrence.

4. Serve as the primary quality liaison for major customers and suppliers, driving the development of specifications, conducting root cause analyses, and ensuring the implementation of permanent corrective actions.

5. Ensure strict adherence to documented quality management systems and procedures, fostering a culture of compliance across all levels of the organization.

6. Manage reporting requirements for specific customers, including 8Ds, CARs, and other customer-specific systems, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

7. Champion Advanced Product Quality Planning initiatives to enhance quality improvement and product validation processes, driving excellence throughout the product lifecycle.

8. Drive the development and implementation of improved business procedures to enhance organizational efficiency and communication, leveraging technology where applicable.

9. Collaborate with IT to enhance access to quality data, proactively identifying trends and opportunities for improvement to prevent issues before they arise.

10. Lead continuous improvement efforts to refine the quality management system, ensuring alignment with customer QMS, 3rd Party, and Process Audits.

11. Oversee internal audits to ensure adherence to control plans and the availability of data for effective root cause analysis.

12. Drive the implementation of workflow software to automate interdepartmental tasks and streamline processes, improving overall efficiency.

13. Provide strategic leadership in the development and maintenance of quality specifications, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and industry standards.

14. Play a key role in the startup and qualification of new equipment/processes, proactively identifying and mitigating potential quality issues.

15. Provide necessary support and information to enable company leadership, supervisors, and managers to fulfill their job requirements effectively.

16. Lead assigned projects, effectively managing tasks and milestones, and providing regular progress updates to stakeholders.

17. Demonstrate proactive initiative and exemplary leadership in all aspects of the role.


Skills and Required Knowledge:

  • Proficient in Six Sigma, Lean, and Production Part Approval Process PPAP methodologies
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, development of pareto charts
  • Outstanding organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and provide effective leadership
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Physical capability to perform duties requiring walking and standing for extended periods
  • Experience in leading and collaborating cross-functionally with direct and indirect reports
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Desired Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering field
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including several years management of direct reports

Travel Expectations:

  • Anticipated travel requirement of 25%, with flexibility for up to 50% travel as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
