Function

Responsible for identifying, analyzing, developing, and implementing improvements in product quality and overall productivity. Monitors, identifies, and drives projects focused on manufacturing systems at all stages to develop the quality and reliability of the process and product and to prevent customer quality issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

Quality Engineering

  1. Leads, participates, and assists in problem solving process to develop preventative and corrective actions. Implements various tasks to improve wire quality, production methods, and business processes to reduce quality issues and accomplish established quality metrics.
  2. Collects data, investigates, and performs product evaluations on customer returns (RMA process), identifying root cause and corrective actions. Communicates, implements, and sustains RCCA activities in the manufacturing process through the plant CAR process.
  3. Implements, utilizes, guides, and controls the use of SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, and daily plant inspections in the manufacturing environment. Uses FMEAs to focus and understand the impact of potential process or product risks or failures in all sub systems and how their consequences effect the whole system. Assesses manufacturing process capability by performing statistical capability studies.
  4. Takes active role in preparation and evaluation of internal audits and IATF annual audit.
  5. Takes lead role in plant level PPAP development submission requirements.
  6. Administers ongoing process sheet development/revisions and product testing development/revisions to QC Hub.
  7. Assists in the oversight of the QC test lab, equipment, and processes including GRRs, gage calibration, and MSA analysis. Assists Lead QC Tech in performing daily non-conforming product reviews and data collection.
  8. Provides a technical point of reference for quality issues and mentors manufacturing supervisors and process technicians in the use of quality improvement techniques.
  9. Administers/communicates the plant QC-N review process. Interfaces with CERs for customer requests including CoCs, specification revisions, etc.

OpeX

  1. Promotes and drives continuous improvement through the OpEx systems and tool application. Evaluates the OpEx system to establish new goals and objectives. Recommends priorities for continuous improvement and coordinates such activities with management.
  2. Leads projects and Kaizen events by facilitating, mentoring, and supporting project team members in the successful application of OpeX tools.
  3. Develops and delivers training to team members on OpEx tools and applications.
  4. Ensures OpEx compliance on performance assessments conducted by Corporate OpEx Leadership team.
  5. Maintains and updates OpEx records and metrics for the plant operations.

6. Issues schedule and coordinates activities of plant LPA process.

7. Performs such individual assignments as directed by management; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the plant teams, the Company and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

Position Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant field.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in Engineering / Manufacturing position.
  • Three (3) years’ experience with focus on continuous improvement.
  • In-depth knowledge of continuous improvement methods and applications.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt and Lean Manufacturing certification preferred. Willing to obtain certification.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook); statistical software (Minitab). Willing to learn.
  • People oriented and comfortable working on the plant floor.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills. Deals well with ambiguity and has a strong Customer Focus.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with analytical focus.
  • Travel up to 10%.
