Job Description
Healthonomonic Primary Care is seeking a skilled and dedicated Medical Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting the smooth operation of our healthcare facility. In addition to standard medical assistant duties, you will be responsible for referrals, record retrieval, and data entry in the electronic medical record system Epic. This position will require you to be flexible. 
 

Responsibilities:

1. Assisting healthcare professionals: Support doctors and nurses in providing high-quality patient care by taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with medical procedures as needed.

2. Referrals and record retrieval: Coordinate and process patient referrals, ensuring timely communication with specialists and tracking referral outcomes. Pull patient records and prepare necessary documents for appointments and consultations.

3. Electronic medical record management: Enter patient information accurately and efficiently into the electronic medical record system Epic. Maintain up-to-date and organized patient records, ensuring compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations.

4. Patient communication and education: Interact with patients in a friendly and professional manner, addressing their inquiries, providing general healthcare information, and offering guidance on appointment scheduling, medication instructions, and test preparations.

5. Administrative tasks: Perform various administrative duties, including answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, managing patient registrations, verifying insurance information, and handling medical billing and coding procedures.

6. Physician support: Accompany doctors to Palos Heights and Evergreen Park, IL, to assist with patient care, documentation, and coordination. Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate the doctor's needs.

7. Evening and weekend availability: Work one evening day and one weekend day per month to ensure accessibility and continuity of care for our patients.

8. Compliance and safety: Adhere to all healthcare regulations, guidelines, and internal policies to maintain a safe and ethical work environment. Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean and organized medical office space.

Qualifications:

1. Education and certification: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program and certification (e.g., CMA, RMA) is required.

2. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting. Familiarity with Epic electronic medical record system is highly preferred.

3. Medical knowledge: Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic clinical procedures. Proficient in taking accurate vital signs and documenting patient information.

4. Communication skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and other staff members. Active listening and empathy are essential.

5. Organizational abilities: Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Efficiently manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

6. Flexibility and adaptability: Willingness to travel to Palos Heights and Evergreen Park, IL, and work one evening day and one weekend per month. Adapt to changes in schedules and responsibilities as required.

7. Ethics and professionalism: Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct. Respect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality of medical records.

8. Technical proficiency: Proficient in using electronic medical record systems, preferably Epic. Basic computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new software and technologies.
