DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supports the Co-op's core values and aligns with the Co-op Code of Conduct.
  • Protects store assets by participating in periodic inventory, following established security practices/policies, and handling injuries/incidents to minimize store liability.
  • Provides input in the development of operating and capital budgets for store.
  • Reviews financial reports of department performance including sales, profit margin, labor and inventory turns, and assists the Grocery Manager in meeting targets.
  • Ensures, in the Grocery Manager's absence, that inventory and supplies are adequate for daily demand, projected high-sales days, and special events.
  • Ensures back-stock products are prioritized and rotated onto sales floor as evidenced through random audit outcomes.
  • Ensures back-stock items are organized and consolidated by categories and in boxes on shelving units in back-stock area as evidenced by visual audits.
  • Ensures products in back stock are placed prior to expiration and notifies Buyers of back stock inventory.
  • Protects store assets by participating in periodic inventory, following established security practices/policies, and handling injuries/incidents to minimize store liability.
  • Checks products against invoices weekly; log invoices into grocery ledger; scan invoices; and submit to Finance on the day received.
  • Acts as a backup receiver, when necessary.
  • Coordinates with Grocery Manager to allocate labor strategically to ensure department margin and labor goals are met.
  • Helps to develop and execute remerchandising plans that aim to drive sales and increase labor efficiency.
  • Helps communicate plans for promotions and new items to staff, suggests new items, and helps ensure sales and promotional items are in stock.
  • Coordinates with the Grocery Manager and buyers to manage shrink.
  • Follows procedures set by the Grocery Manager to ensure all department staff are regularly informed of department and individual performance with respect to measurable goals (margin, weekly sales, loss prevention, etc.).
  • Follows the direction of the Grocery Manager to ensure regular trainings and materials for staff.
  • With the Grocery Manager, keeps department staff informed of storewide and departmental news and policy/procedural changes; helps organize and lead regular department meetings.
  • Follows procedure regarding absenteeism, schedule changes, and breaks, taking needs of co-workers and store coverage into account.
  • Ensures guidelines for fresh storage, handling, and display of products are followed by all department staff.
  • Maintains a system of product rotation established by the Grocery Manager and the Merchandising Dept. to ensure maximum freshness and minimized spoilage.
  • Attends and participates in regular marketing activities, promotions, and storewide merchandising; provides input and enacts decisions and standards set by management consensus.
  • Checks that promotional signage is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Stays abreast of developments in the natural products industry and product selection by attending trade shows, reading trade publications, and talking with department buyers.
  • Provides attentive, timely, and friendly service to both internal and external customers all at all times.
  • Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the Co-op.
  • Others duties as assigned.


Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Associate's degree in business/retail management or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of one (1) years' experience in a retail environment and managing and directing staff.
  • A minimum of one (1) years' experience and familiarity with natural foods strongly preferred.
  • Adapts readily based on evolving Co-op needs or in response to feedback.
  • Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.
  • Ability to effectively handle and address conflict resolution in the workplace.
  • Basic understanding of financial statements (profit and loss statements, sales, margin, labor, etc.)
  • Ability to hold others accountable to policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to promote staff productivity.
  • Ability to set individual performance goals that align with department and overall Co-op goals.
  • Computer proficiency (to include Microsoft Office) and familiarity with receiving systems preferred.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Flexibility to work any shift, including mornings, middays, evenings, weekends.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures (approximately 20°F - 90°F).
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods at a time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and climb.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Reliable access to transportation.
