Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to operate a burning machine to close tolerances in a metal production environment. This position is responsible for loading and unloading the material so that it can be burned, as well as unloading and labeling parts for shipment. Opening on 2nd shift, M-F, 3:00pm-11:30pm.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works to supply products and services that meet or exceed the customers' expectations. Follows the documented quality systems and processes that are continually being improved to satisfy our customers' needs.
  • Read work instructions to determine material to pull for burn job and locate the particular material in the warehouse.
  • Ensure the correct burn tip and gas settings are used on machine.
  • Enter proper program into computer for machine burning specifications.
  • Set up, operate, or tend burn machines that cut material to specified dimensions.
  • Inspect and measure work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes to ensure the quality of parts.
  • Secures lifting attachments to materials and transport loads to destination, using powered overhead crane or forklift, or signals crane or forklift operators to move load to destination.
  • Balance material picked up by overhead crane and guide to burn table, all while maneuvering around other material and obstacles.
  • Manually move small burned parts to designated areas, or use an overhead crane for larger parts.
  • Locate all parts including small burned parts that have fallen through table slats before they get ruined.
  • May set up and operate power tools associated with fabricating shops, such as right-angle or die grinder.
  • Properly mark and place finished burn parts as specified by job instructions.
  • Maintain cleanliness in designated workspace to reduce trips, slips, and falls.
  • May assist Production Manager or Burn Supervisor in other duties or special projects as needed.

  • Controlling Machines and Processes: Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events: Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings: Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Performing General Physical Activities: Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work: Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Safety and Security; Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates: Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Handling and Moving Objects: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment: Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Making Decisions and Solving Problems: Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Technology: Burn machine computer.
  • Tools: Personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, etc.), levels, die grinder, right-angle grinder, rasp files, tape measure, and bevel square.

Qualifications

  • This particular position requires the individual to have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); some previous work-related experience is a plus; or a combination of education and experience.

Preferences

  • Previous material handler experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Working Environment and Conditions

  • Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, and be able to communicate verbally and in writing and take direction. The employee is frequently required to be in a stationary position, move about the buildings and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, operate machinery, and use eye-hand coordination.
  • Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and the noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Long hours and weekends can be expected when understaffed or when there is an increase in demand of burn production items.
