Job description

May Ship Repair is seeking a Plasma Cutting Table Operator to join our team at our shipyard facility. The ideal candidate will have experience operating CNC plasma cutting equipment and reading technical drawings in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC plasma cutting table to cut steel plates according to work orders and drawings
  • Load and unload materials on the cutting table using overhead cranes or forklifts
  • Interpret technical drawings, nesting layouts, and cutting programs
  • Perform daily equipment checks and preventative maintenance
  • Ensure parts are labeled, organized, and ready for welding or fitting
  • Maintain accurate records of material usage and part traceability
  • Follow all safety protocols and report any equipment or safety issue
Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience operating CNC plasma or oxy-fuel cutting tables
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and CAD-generated cut files
  • Familiarity with steel plate types, grades, and thicknesses used in marine work
  • Basic computer skills to load and adjust programs on the controller
  • Experience using measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, etc.)
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes (preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift heavy materials (50+ lbs)
  • Comfortable working in an open-air or industrial environment, often near heavy equipment
  • Capable of wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Work Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM 4:00 PM
