Audit Principal

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors Degree in Accounting or equivalent degree.
• CPA designation required.
• 10+ years previous public accounting experience planning and supervising multiple audit and large review engagements.
• Significant working knowledge of accounting (US GAAP required, special purpose frameworks such as cash, income tax basis, IFRS) and professional practices (US GAAS and SSARS required, Government Auditing Standards) and be able to research and resolve complex accounting issues.
• Solid research and writing skills, excellent verbal communication and presentation skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff and clients.
• Experience auditing employee benefit plans and/or Uniform Guidance is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills, excellent computer skills, communication skills, time management skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and clients.
• A proven record of building profitable, loyal client relationships.
• Previous experience with peer review and internal inspection processes a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as client engagement leader directing the auditing of all required financial statements, related disclosures, and other client deliverables for clients in varying industries.
• Oversee multiple engagements including team staffing, job planning and scheduling.
• Approve risk assessment, engagement work programs and time budgets.
• Support the training of team members; offer guidance and direction, give constructive criticism of working papers.
• Review any significant engagement findings that raise questions involving audit approach, accounting principles or financial statement presentation.
• Review financial statements, notes, schedules, management letters, and tax returns for later discussion with the client.
• Prepare an engagement evaluation report for each team member supervised and discuss with that person (individually).Participate in annual performance evaluation and compensation adjustment processes.
• Display a high degree of technical and professional competence including remaining up to date on all professional pronouncements.
• Ensure professional development through ongoing education.
• Serve in educational programs as an instructor or discussion leader.
• Monitor the budget and engagement profitability timely.
• Approve issuance of assurance deliverables.
• Identify technical accounting matters early and assess impact on financial statements.
• Maintain contact with clients throughout the year to develop deeper relationships to better understand clients goals and strategies.
• Provide insightful business advice and present oneself as a trusted business advisor.
• Anticipate and address client concerns as they arise.
• Identify additional areas of work, i.e., work beyond the scope of the engagement letter, estimate the amount of time and receive client approval before commencing work.
• Represent the firm at special social events and private functions.
• Assist in business development efforts.
• Administer client billing and all other aspects of the client relationship.
