JOB SUMMARY

This position is part of the Application Team, who are responsible for managing and supporting JAXPORT’s Enterprise Applications. Our Enterprise Applications have been built upon best-of-breed technology, allowing efficient and effective integration, reporting, and management.

The ideal candidate will not be expected to know the ins-and-outs of our Enterprise Applications on day-one but rather will have a fundamental working knowledge of managing SQL databases, configuring applications, scripting, and APIs; and also, a drive to professionally develop as a critical member of this dedicated Information Technology team as it progresses the Technology and Innovation of the Transportation and Logistics sector of Jacksonville and the greater Northeast Florida region.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Enterprise Applications Support Functions:

1. Identify, research, and correct issues within various applications and systems. This ranges from user training, database integrity, intended functionality of the system, recent modifications to system, and /or collaboration with others in the Applications team or other areas of IT, to device corrective action.

2. Review, analyze, and modify systems including installation, configuration, testing, debugging, and training to support application systems; assist with on-going maintenance, updates, and enhancements to existing applications.

3. Work with business users to research and test potential system enhancements, including both hardware and software, with the intent to enhance productivity.

4. Gather requirements from business users and create functional specifications to ensure the end-results of all projects meet customer’s specifications.

5. Create test plans to execute when implementing new or modified systems.

6. Produce technical documentation for new and existing applications, including custom configurations, operating procedures, user guides, etc.

7. Leads projects throughout the project life cycle process.

Database Administration Functions:

1. Plan, develop, and maintain SQL databases.

2. Troubleshoot and provide solutions to improve the performance, integrity, security and routine maintenance of all corporate databases.

3. Develop processes and standards for ongoing maintenance of corporate databases.

4. Routinely test database performance /database recovery and restoration process.

5. Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.

6. Create automation for repeating database tasks.

7. Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.

This position does not supervise employees.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High School diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field preferred.

At JAXPORT's discretion candidates may substitute proven expertise in the Information Technology field in lieu of a formal degree.

Experience:

  • One or more years’ experience in providing SQL database administration and maintenance is preferred.
  • One or more years’ experience in providing support for enterprise software applications and providing user support in an IT department is preferred.
  • One or more years’ experience in gathering project requirements and collaborating with various positions within IT, in addition to collaborating with the user community is preferred.
  • One or more years’ experience in leading projects is preferred.

Certifications: N/A

Knowledge:

  • Working technical experience with relational database servers (SQL Server).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Working knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.
  • Familiarity with maintaining enterprise applications; providing secured systems that perform as expected.

  • Valid driver license is required and must be maintained during employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) during employment.
  • May require working during off-hours and/or overtime, depending on workload and/or special projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to frequently remain in a stationary position.
  • Frequently move, traverse inside office or on JAXPORT property to accomplish job duties.
  • Occasionally operate, use or handle equipment, tools, computers and other office machinery.
  • Occasionally detect, determine, identify, recognize, observe, inspect to read and use computers.
  • Occasionally detect, converse with, convey, exchange information with others via telephone.
  • Occasionally move, transport and position, material up to 10 pounds.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Office environment or local travel for meetings or functions.
