Job Description

 Job Objective:

Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of public relations and marketing strategies and tactics on behalf of Antelope Valley Hospital Programs under this director's preview include those directed to both internal audiences (employees, medical staff, volunteers, board of directors) as well as external stakeholders (patients, media, civic leaders, community at large, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Public Relations Leadership

1. Assumes lead position in the development, implementation and evaluation of a marketing and public relations strategy and plan for Antelope Valley Hospital. 2. Serves as counsel and advisor to the chief executive officer and other members of the senior leadership team as it relates to both image and issue management. 3. Has supervisory responsibility for in-house staff (including public relations coordinator) and coordinates activities with outside marketing and/or public relations consulting agencies. 4. Holds primary responsibility for the maintenance of the hospital's"brand." Monitors and guides the appropriate execution of hospital identity and logo in all media formats-print, electronic, collateral material, vehicles and facilities. 5. Actively participates as part of the hospital's department heads team. 6. Prepares budget projections for approval and maintains appropriate records of project costs to ensure compliance with determined budgets. Work with accounts payable and accounting departments to manage vendor invoices and billing appropriate parties for pro¡ect expenses.

B. Marketing and Public Relations Tactical Duties

1. Oversees the hospital's media relations efforts, including such proactive activities as the development/distribution of press releases and the arranging/oversight of media interviews as well as reactive duties such as responding appropriately to media inquiries. This may include developing key talking points and/or briefing the hospital spokesperson. 2. Serves as hospital spokesperson with the media when so designated by the CEO. 3. Manages production and distribution of all hospital publications, including (but not limited to) brochures, direct mail pieces, flyers, posters, invitations and other collateral materials. 4. Oversees the hospital's digital media efforts including, but not limited to, the maintenance of the hospital's website. Works with outside agency in coordination of the hospital's social media presence. 5. Oversees the hospital's advertising efforts. Works with agencies or media buyers to develop advertising placement plans and manages such plans. 6. Reviews all hospital sponsorship opportunities and makes appropriate recommendations regarding participation and hospital commitment. 7. Coordinates various special events throughout the year - both onsite and within the larger community - which better bonds the hospital to the community at large and/or specific targeted stakeholders. 8. Represents AVH's relationship with targeted local civic groups and other organizations within the business community and, concurrently, works with local civic organizations to place members of AVH leadership on the appropriate boards of directors and key committees. 9. Supports the marketing and public relations requests of all departments and service lines. 10. lnterfaces with the AVH Foundation to provide appropriate public relations counsel and support. 11. Responds to various requests from patients and the community for informational literature, requests for physician speakers, health screenings, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge: - Knowledge of appropriate media usage. - Knowledge in the development of messages, advertising, media and publicity vehicles. - Knowledge in the development and management of a budget.

Skills: . Excellent verbal and written communication skills. . Ability to use a camera. . Excellent interpersonal, organizational skills and detail orientation. . Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and use new software and technology are essential.

Abilities . Ability to work with internal and external customers, clients and partners. ¡ Ability to keep abreast of new developments in healthcare marketing and public relations techniques, product lines and other relevant factors. . Ability to work autonomously. . Ability to work effectively and produce under tight deadlines and schedules. . Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously (organization and prioritization). . Ability to work and communicate effectively while maintaining good working relationships with coworkers, managers and other hospital staff.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education Bachelor'sdegree in journalism, marketing, communications or public relations.

Seven years of experience in marketing, public relations or community relations

Successful work history in the greater Lancaster or Antelope Valley community.

Healthcare or health-related experience preferred, but not required.

Prior supervisory experience.
