Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Aircraft Mechanic Lead oversees and coordinates maintenance and repair activities for rotary and fixed wing aircraft. Responsible for leading a team of skilled technicians, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining strict adherence to maintenance schedules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

DUTIES:

  • Leads and supervises a team of aircraft technicians, providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure efficient and effective completion of tasks.
  • Coordinates maintenance and repair tasks, assigning responsibilities and priorities of work to team members based on skill level and workload requirements.
  • Ensures all maintenance activities comply with established procedures, technical manuals, and safety regulations to guarantee the airworthiness of aircraft.
  • Manages resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Identifies training needs and provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and capabilities of team members.
  • Maintains open communication channels with team members, management, and other stakeholders to provide updates on progress, challenges, and potential solutions.
  • Addresses issues and challenges promptly, implementing effective solutions to minimize disruptions to operations and maintain project timelines.
  • Performs maintenance and troubleshooting procedures on airframe, powerplant, and avionics systems.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
  • Updates daily status reports and provides aircraft updates during production control meetings.
  • Enforces safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment and prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 6+ years military aviation maintenance experience is required.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products to create, modify and update test and inspection documents, reports, charts, checklists, and databases.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with DCMA 8210.1C.
  • Must have own tools and ability to meet minimum tool list requirements.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.
