Director of Finance

The Director of Finance is a key member of the Senior Management team. Their primary role is to assist the Chief Financial Officer ("CFO") with the overall external and internal financial reporting requirements of EDEN and its subsidiaries, maintaining a positive system of internal control and providing leadership and oversight to the fiscal organization, including planning, growth and expense control. The Controller provides accounting/finance and internal accounting control support, input and advice to the CFO and other department heads and ensures financial information is prepared and presented in accordance with GAAP and that compliance requirements pertaining to grants and special programs are met.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Oversee timely and accurate general ledger accounting in accordance with GAAP and EDEN's policies, including:
- Thorough understanding of GAAP for not-for-profit organizations
- Thorough understanding of Uniform Guidance requirements and other applicable Circulars
- Establishing and monitoring the effectiveness of the internal control environment, including
segregation of duties, review and approval protocols and documentation requirements
- Direct the preparation and analysis of financial reports for management use, including the collection of data to support EDEN endeavors
- Supervise and review external financial reports, including GAAP consolidated financial statements, Uniform Guidance financial reports, and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit ("LIHTC") requirements, and other compliance filings
- Assist the CFO in coordinating the work of external auditors
- Direct the implementation and/or maintenance or development of financial policies, practices, and procedures and monitor effectiveness
- Oversee the maintenance and monitoring of grant, regulatory and other external fiscal requirements to meet all deadlines, including coordination and communication with non-fiscal departments
- Provide input to the strategic plan, including growth visioning, marketing insights and technology needs
- Ensure compliance with State and Federal laws, tax and regulatory filing requirements
- Direct the preparation and variance analysis of the operating and capital budgets.
- Liquidity requirements, cash management and cash flow monitoring
- Debt covenant compliance monitoring
- Review and approve journal entries, bank reconciliations and account analysis.
- Oversee the accounting for payroll activities and employee benefit plans, including assessing audit and tax requirements
- Identify and implement improvements to fiscal operations, including the system of internal control with a desire to increase quality, accuracy and timeliness while decreasing workload
- Direct supervisory responsibility for overall Finance department.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate information, accounting and financial reporting requirements and to foster a team environment
- Ability to motivate others by delegating effectively, including setting expectations, monitoring results and implementing corrective action plans.
- Self-starter able to prioritize and plan work activities for self and subordinates in a complex organization
- Proficient with financial accounting software, including complex spreadsheets, pivot tables and other finance tools
- Ability to research and comprehend financial reporting standards and grant agreement requirements
- Dependable and punctual regarding work attendance and solid work ethic.
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and a minimum of five years of accounting experience is required. A Master's degree is preferred. Not-for-profit experience is preferred. Prior supervision experience required. Knowledge of Yardi enterprise software preferred.
A valid Ohio driver's license with good driving record and proof of adequate insurance. A license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
