Job Description

Shift:

Weekends 7p-7a


Summary:

The Lead Medication Technician is responsible for the management and administration of residents’ medication and treatments. They will also assists residents with daily living activities which may include but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, dining and transporting needs.

They will assures physician orders are completed. Assist resident with securing and managing healthcare. Documents resident care as required. Communicates effectively with residents, family members, and staff. Assists other members of the nursing staff with duties related to the daily needs of the residents according to established standards. Assist with scheduling, reporting incidents, maintaining standard of care on weekend on-call duties rotating with clinical and administrative leadership. Assist with coordinating scheduling, daily assignments and shift coverage. Managing resident supplies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.

4. Management and administration of residents’ medications and treatments including:

a. Performing task associated with medication administration such as, vital signs, height, weight, glucose monitoring, and resident observation after administration.

b. Assessing skin integrity, notify nurse of problem areas.

c. Assist physician during rounds.

d. Order and reorder medication when needed.

e. Report drug errors to Manager and fill out proper documentation

f. Assess resident during a fall or sickness. Assess if resident needs emergency services

g. Fill out incident reports and contact Physician and Power of Attorney.

h. Review and transcribe written physicians’ orders, upload to EMAR in absence of nurse

i. Help with admission or readmission of a resident

j. Complete requisitions and arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services as ordered by Physician.

k. Cart audits, monthly recaps, and monthly reviews to be completed according to assigned shifts.

l. Proper use and maintenance of narcotic count

m. Notifying Physician of any changes to residents’ condition or if emergency services were needed.

5. Assists with personal hygiene including dressing, bathing, shaving, dental hygiene, nail and hair care.

6. Performs housekeeping tasks such as laundry, vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning room, bed making, and bed changes.

7. Escorts residents and coordinates internal transportation needs.

8. Observes/reports changes in residents’ physical and cognitive/emotional status to the nurse and physician.

9. Conducts room checks and resident rounds.

10. Reports environmental safety hazards, records incidents, errors or accidents.

11. Assists in tasks relating to dining.

12. Participates in resident-centered activity programs.

13. Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations.

14. Works collaboratively with peers and other team members.

15. Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process.

16. Recognizes and respects resident rights and maintains and protects resident and coworker confidentiality.

17. Assists with securing and managing resident healthcare.

18. Assists in coordinating work schedule and daily assignment sheets for resident aides and med techs with assistance from the Nurse Manager of Resident Services as needed.

19. Assists with securing and managing resident healthcare.

20. Act as the facility designee in the absence of the Administrator, Manager of Resident Services and other nurses.

21. Acts as a preceptor for new med techs and resident aides.

22. Oversees daily tasks of Medication Technicians and Resident Aides

23. Oversees scheduling for overtime and extra shifts as needed.

24. Works with Nurse Manager and Administrator to manage resident aide and med tech staffing in accordance with the budget.

25. Completion and tracking of Resident Assessment and Support Plans.

26. Assists with management, tracking, and ordering of resident supplies.

27. Rotates on-call weekends with Clinical and Administrative staff and directs the care of the residents remotely and on campus if needed. For WOW employees on call days will be during the week.

28. Answers and responds to calls via on-call weekend phone during on-call weekend.

29. Completion of Resident assessment and support plans.

30. All other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

1. High school graduate or equivalent required.

2. 3 – 5 years of experience as a Medication Technician

3. Previous resident care experience or related training preferred.

4. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CRPS) or First Aid Certification preferred by not required


Work Environment:

Employees of a long term care facility work in a resident care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Employees can be expected to be exposed to unpleasant odors and may encounter physically or verbally aggressive residents.

Working conditions include normal indoor temperatures. There may also be times when employees perform duties outdoors. Depending on the season, outdoor temperatures will vary.

Employees may come into contact with residents who have infectious diseases or to resident bodily fluids or blood. In addition, employees may come into contact with hazardous materials and facility equipment.
