Position Overview

The Accountant position will report directly to the AVP of Finance & Accounting and support a full scope of accounting activities such as preparation and maintenance of month end closings, associated account reconciliations, and reporting. The Accountant position will work collaboratively with departments managers to resolve inquiries and issues.

Essential Functions :

• Ensure the timely and accurate completion of the monthly close
• Prepare month end journal entries and upload into general ledger
• Maintain and implement standard accounting practices, principles and procedures for ESMA
• Ensure that various monthly invoice billings are prepared accurately and distributed in a timely manner
• Ensure that all transactions are processed in accordance with existing accounting procedures and system of internal controls
• Generate daily, weekly, monthly accounting reports
• Prepare bank reconciliations monthly
• Prepare all balance sheet reconciliations
• Assist with annual budget process
• Prepare all year end audit schedules along with supporting documentation
• Make recommendations to the AVP of Finance for developing and maintaining accounting practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff outside the accounting area
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial data for program managers, to include reporting, budgeting and forecasting
• Conduct account research and analysis into billing and A/R discrepancies; maintain A/R aging with appropriate research into past due invoices
• Make recommendations for developing and maintaining appropriate accounting policies and practices to ensure financial activity is timely and accurate
• Performs advanced and specialized accounting assignments, involving complex and confidential data

Other Functions:

• Assist with general operations of finance department
• Work on special projects for CFO & VP of Administration and AVP of Finance & Accounting
• Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned

Required Qualifications :

• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Experience with financial software packages
• Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office and expertise in Microsoft Excel
• Demonstrated ability to process large amounts of data manually
• Strong organizational skills and detail orientation

Preferred Qualifications :

• 3+ years of previous experience in an accounting role
• Prior experience with Microsoft Great Plains
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

Compensation will be commensurate with relevant experience.
