Job Title: Peer Manager

Department: Houseless Intervention Services

Reports to: Director of Social Services

Salary Grade/Level/Family/Range: $75,000

Effective Date: 8-Apr-24

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Job Summary: The Peer Manager will be Responsible for oversight and supervision of Peer Support Advocates and peer supported services at all sites. They are responsible for performing supervisions, creating opportunities for peers to interact with one another, and ensuring compliance to policy. They will be responsible for the hiring, coaching, and accountability, and any terminations of Peer Support Advocates for the organization.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administration, Compliance & Programming
  1. Supervises Peer Support Advocates at all AGNW sites.
  2. Demonstrate and empower staff to take initiative and problem solve.
  3. Address ethical and boundary issues.
  4. Develop and evaluate peer support programming.
  5. Work with directors to create more optimal working conditions for peer workers.
  6. Provide support and assist staff in following policies and procedures.
  7. Provide leadership, support, and positive role modeling for Peer Support Advocates.
  8. Facilitate team meetings on a regular basis.
  9. Assist with on-the-job training and guidance for new and current staff.
  10. Participate in compliance, quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
  11. Responsible for reviewing, correction and approval of timecards of direct reports by 10am the 1st and 16th of each month in conjunction with site management.
  12. Attend and participate in all outlined trainings.

  • Supervisory
  1. Checks in with staff on goals and job responsibilities.
  2. Develops and implements supervision plan for Peer Support Advocates.
  3. Communicates job and expectations to Peer Support Advocates.
  4. Assists Peer Support Advocates in identifying any barriers to services for participants and works collaboratively to resolve.
  5. Encourages Peer Support Advocates to collaborate and support one another in their roles.
  6. Collaborates with Program managers to confirm that peers are completing all required duties.
  7. Works with Behavioral Health Leads to ensure that peer work connects to team service plans.
  8. Identifying, coaching, and providing tools, resources, and information for staff.
  9. Provides accountability and coaching.
  10. Responsible for the selecting, interviewing, and hiring process of Peer Support Advocates.
  11. Responsible for administration of any coaching and/or progressive discipline of staff up to, and including, termination.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Peer Support Advocates.

Required Education/Credentials:

  • Current standing in Oregon as a Peer Support Specialist, Peer Wellness Specialist, or Certified Recovery Mentor II.

Required Skills/Abilities:.

  • Direct administrative or support services in a non-profit, housing, sheltering, or volunteer coordination.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Understanding of Housing First and Harm Reduction models.
  • Understanding of core competencies of peer workers.
  • Understanding of and respect for many pathways of recovery.
  • Ability to self-direct, initiate, and complete projects collaboratively and independently.
  • Being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace.
  • Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Required Experience:

  • Lived experience with one or more of the following:
    • Current or former consumer of addictions or mental health services;
    • In recovery from addictions.
  • 1 - 2 years’ experience as a supervisor or similar position.
  • 2 - 3 years’ experience as a Peer Support Specialist, Recovery Mentor, or similar position.
  • Experience working with individuals who are or have recently experienced homelessness, addictions, and mental health challenges, and may encounter significant barriers to accessing services.

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or another related field.
  • Other relevant certification or training.

Additional eligibility requirements:

  • Must be able to work in a drug free environment
  • Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned task
  • Must be able to pass TB test
  • Must be able to pass a background check upon hire

Work environment:

Working indoors and outdoors in heat and cold | Slippery and uneven walking surfaces | Working in close proximity to others | Exposure to offensive odors

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50lbs | Bending, stooping, reaching | Sitting for extended periods of time | Standing for extended periods of time

Travel required:

Occasional travel to and from other work sites up to 40% of the time.
