Organist/Pianist/Vocal and Handbell Choirs Director

1. Select, prepare and present appropriate organ/piano music for/during prelude, offering, communion, and postlude. The church has a maintained 1983 Moeller 20 rank organ. The console is downstairs. The attractive pipe structure is in the balcony. The piano is a maintained Steinway Studio Baby Grand.

2. Accompany/lead congregational singing of liturgy, hymns, and praise songs (CCLI) on organ/piano.

3. Select appropriate music for Sanctuary Choir and Hand Bell/Chime Choir for service; rehearse weekly (currently Wednesdays 6p bells, 7p vocal) with each group, and present selections at worship Sept-Holy Trinity Sunday. The church has 3 octaves Schulmerich Bells and Handchimes. The bells were completely refurbished in 2023.

4. Prepare special music offering for worship after Holy Trinity Sunday until the choirs begin again in September. These can be soloists, duets, etc. The Church Musician doesn’t need to perform them.

5. Worship days are one service on Sunday morning at 9:30a, three Wednesday evenings during Advent, one on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday evening, five additional Wednesday evening Lenten services, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services, one or two services for Easter (possible Vigil or Sunrise in addition to the regular Sunday worship). Special music by Sanctuary Choir and/or Handbell Choir on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

6. The Church Musician has first right of refusal for playing for weddings and funerals/celebrations of life held at the church, including extra compensation. Funerals $175, with soloist $200. Weddings $225, with rehearsal $250, with rehearsal and soloist $275.

7. Attend monthly Worship and Music Ministry Team meeting. It is typically the first Monday of the month, subject to change. Perform other duties as a member of the Worship and Music Team such as overseeing maintenance and tuning of the organ and pianos within the budget of the congregation, purchasing music to be approved by Worship and Music Team Chair and reported to the treasurer, submitting titles of music and other information to the church administrator for inclusion in the worship bulletin no later than 12noon on Mondays prior to regularly scheduled services.

8. The Church Musician is directly responsible to the Pastor and will meet with her to coordinate efforts for the worship services. The Pastor chooses the hymns with input from the Church Musician. The Church Musician and the Pastor will work together in order to have well-prepared and flowing services.

The Church Musician is entitled to paid time off of one Sunday per quarter for a total of four Sundays annually at a time mutually agreed upon with the Pastor and the Chairperson of the Worship and Music Ministry Team. The Church Musician cannot take special services as paid time off. It is preferred to take vacation when the choirs are not playing. Paid time off may be accrued, but must be used in the calendar year, at the discretion of the pastor and the Worship and Music Ministry Team Chairperson. The Church Musician agrees to arrange for a qualified substitute during time off, approved by the Pastor and Chairperson of the Worship and Music Ministry Team. Reimbursement for a substitute shall be paid by the congregation for no more than four Sundays in a year. Additional substitutes will be paid by the congregation with funds deducted from the Church Musician’s salary.

This job is part-time 16-20 hours a week. Salary is based upon experience.
