The Aquatics Coordinator is a year-round, position whose primary responsibility is to assist the Aquatics Director with the development, implementation, and evaluation of all Aquatics Programs, Activities, and Staff. These programs include, but are not limited to: Working on Scheduling in conjunction with the Director of Aquatics, group swim lessons for children and adults, vacation camps, aquatics group fitness classes, Storm swim team, private swim lessons and any other direct service essential for the successful operation of the aquatics department. This individual is the second-in-charge for the department and assumes all responsibilities as an assistant to the department head.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Taking the lead of the Lifeguard Team in the event of an emergency
  • Admin work including but not limited to:
    • Scheduling guards
    • Supply management and ordering
  • Enforcing JCC Pool Rules and Policies with members in a polite manner
  • Direct Service in the form of group lessons, private lessons or the like each week from 5 - 20 hours depending on agency need.
  • Taking the lead in adapting to various unexpected conditions including:
    • Putting themselves in rotation on days when the pool is crowded or the staff is shorthanded-this also includes organizing the substitution calendar and ensuring that Lifeguards find the necessary substitutes for their shifts
    • Closing the pool for inclement weather and sending lifeguards home and/or setting up an "on call" system for lifeguards in a fair and professional manner
    • Closing Lap Swim in the event of special programs and/or overcrowding
  • Monitoring Lifeguards' performance including ensuring that Lifeguards:
    • Post and follow up on sub shifts that they need covered
    • Perform any assigned cleaning tasks at opening, closing, or during normal pool hours
  • Perform any necessary maintenance tasks including:
    • Taking Chlorine and pH readings and adjusting the chlorine and acid accordingly for the Big and Baby pools
    • Overseeing and assisting in the clean up of the facility at opening, closing, and during the operational hours of the Outdoor pool
    • Monitoring and adjusting the pool temperature
  • Must be able and willing to travel between Holland and Benderson buildings as needed

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

  • Education/Experience: All applicants must have all current Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid, and CPR/AED Red Cross Certifications which must be kept up to date during the course of their employment. Additionally, they must be able to demonstrate all rescue skills according to Red Cross Standards as well as be willing to attend and help take the lead in any Mandatory In-Service training.
