ENGINEERING PACKAGING LINE TECH- 1st shift. Monday- Friday 7:00 am- 3:30 pm

Relocation is available.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Engineering Packaging Line Technician is responsible for day-to-day setup and change over direction as well as oversight, identifying the need and oversight of corrective actions, and technical oversight of the packaging line process.

  • The ideal candidate would have 1 – 3 years’ experience in pharmaceutical or food processing and packaging environments as a troubleshooting technician or setup mechanic.
  • Previous participation with capsule bottling and bottle handling with conveyor systems preferred but not required.
  • Experience with various types of sensors such as fiber optic, capacitance, proximity, bar scanners, and limits switches that are used to control machines and mechanisms is highly desired
  • Familiarity with motor controllers, relays, VFD’s, HMI’s, and PLC’s is a plus.
  • Trouble shooting of pneumatic devices and directional control valves happens daily.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude is required to understand the theory of operation of processes and equipment to arrive at solutions quickly in our high paced processing and packaging environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES – Satisfactorily performing and/or achieving the following Responsibilities are essential duties of the job.

  • Setup and change over direction and oversight, identifying the need and oversight of corrective actions, and technical oversight of the packaging line process.
  • Ensure that the equipment is maintained in good working condition to maximize output.
  • Draft work orders as necessary for the maintenance and repair of equipment assigned.
  • Provide input on equipment and process improvement.
  • Review and upgrade the related process documentation for SOP’s and WI’s and provide input on PM’s.
  • Provide technical support for the packaging lines. Including, but not limited to electrical controls, mechanical systems, process improvement, and packaging material/product/raw material issues.
  • Provide technical support for various types of control components such as but not limited to photo electric sensors, proximity sensors, scanning devices, relays, pressure/vacuum switches, transducers, valves and solenoids, pneumatic/hydraulic/electric cylinders, mechanical/electrical clutches and brakes, and various control circuit components.
  • Possess the ability to understand the interrelationships between equipment and processes, and be able to provide recommendations to various departments within the company.
  • Possess basic understanding of the operation of PLC’s, HMI’s, and VFD’s.
  • Possess basic understanding of relays, directional control valves, pneumatics, and similar componentry utilized on equipment.
  • Write one-page “How to” documents on downtime resolutions to mitigate knowledge/experience gaps in peers.
  • Possess problem solving capabilities to be able to work with Production, Maintenance, and Engineering staff in determining root causes to prevent issues from reoccurring.
  • Interface with Production Supervision to establish task priority.
  • Identify gaps in equipment capabilities and recommend solutions.
  • Maintain knowledge of all Standard Operating Procedures and Current Good Manufacturing Practices relating to area safety, procedures, and processes.
  • Complete assigned tasks as defined by Engineering Manager (or designee) in the defined timeframe or quickly communicate issues that may prevent timely completion.
  • Work on and keep track of multiple projects using current relevant project management tools.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Thorne machinery and, using this knowledge, write, modify, or update procedures in SOP’s.
  • Possessing the ability to communicate with various groups (Production, Maintenance, Quality, etc.) throughout the facility is paramount. The individual will require input and/or feedback from all groups.
  • Support workload / priority fluctuations that may require overtime.

What You Need:

  • High school diploma (or general education degree—GED) required. Associates degree or other similar higher education in a technical or maintenance related field highly preferred. One to three years’ experience within a technical manufacturing environment required. A degree in an applicable field can substitute for experience.
  • Experience working in skilled trade, manufacturing maintenance or manufacturing engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrate a broader understanding of the application of engineering principles and demonstrate the ability to work independently on more complex tasks.
  • Develop and deliver on assigned objectives within requested timeframes.
  • Build, develop, motivate, and engage highly performing teams and work cross-functionally.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and engage others in a positive manner.
  • Possess strong attention to detail.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be willing to raise issues and concerns promptly.
  • Document and present work in a clear and concise manner.
  • Work independently with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Possess knowledge of the computers and software required to accomplish the Responsibilities of the job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS – Being able to meet the Physical Demands of the job is an essential duty of the job.

  • Must be able to work in a stationary position as well as move about unassisted. Must be able to work in warehouse and manufacturing conditions requiring good eyesight and hearing to maintain personal safety around moving manufacturing equipment, and forklifts. Must be able to hear and converse with supervisors and other employees. Must be able to work in a moderate noise level environment.
