Job Description

Purpose: The Group Leader is responsible for the daily operation of all production, quality, paperwork, and maintenance in the Manufacturing, Quality, and Warehouse areas. This person has the responsibility to direct employees by using experience and knowledge of production methods, processes, equipment, safe practices, and total quality to achieve continuous improvements. This person will support Quality coverage on shift by assisting in process analysis, dispositioning materials and products, control non-conforming, improve process quality.

Direct Reports: Hourly Personnel

Dimensions of Position: The Group Leader will directly supervise hourly production employees in a production shift. Metrics are data driven relating to manufactured and invoiced sales.

Key Result Areas:

  • Create and promote a safe working environment in all departments by actively participating in safety audits, submission and implementation of safety improvement ideas, and upholding corporate safety standards.
  • Supervise available equipment and personnel to optimize efficiency and produce scheduled parts per the agreed upon timeframe.
  • Play key role in the overall plant improvement program – work closely with Quality group to highlight preventative and corrective actions that lead to continuous improvement in yields.
  • Work with the maintenance department and key operators, to ensure all critical equipment is properly serviced and maintained to optimize efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate accounting and control of inventory levels in areas of responsibility, cycle count and advise potential shortages.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by management.
  • Oversee that all processes are clearly and thoroughly defined in documented procedures and that all hourly operators are effectively trained to follow these procedures.
  • Verify test results obtained by production operators for any quality defects.
  • Measure product using various methods – caliper, CMM machine. Compare results to drawings.
  • Through close monitoring of daily area activity, ensure that all operations are completed per procedures so that resulting product meets all required quality standards. Perform periodic audits of production activities and finished product quality.

Qualifications: 4-year degree or an equivalent combination of a experience. 5S and Lean manufacturing experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Experience: 5-7 years of experience within a manufacturing environment

Knowledge:

  • Must be familiar with total quality and continuous improvement methods within a manufacturing and/or warehouse environment.
  • Understanding on how to drive performance improvement across working groups to achieve high performance
  • Adept in data capture and measurement of cycle time, line capacity, TOC.
  • Knowledge of SPC, computer applications, process engineering/control, Lean, quality standards and auditing.
  • Demonstrated ability in critical analysis
