We are looking for a Tooling Service Supervisor to join our growing company and manage the Tool Room. This position is integral in supporting our manufacturing team, managing the department, and ensuring tools are ready based on the day’s production schedule. Responsibilities include servicing and maintaining tools and ensuring quality standards are exceeded while minimizing costs and meeting specifications. This is a 2nd shift position, working 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the tool room activity to ensure tools are well maintained, properly repaired, and stored to meet quality and production standards
- Analyze machining and tooling problems, identify trends, provide ongoing recommendations for improvements to maximize performance, and coordinate corrective action
- Provide instruction and guidance in the use of tool room equipment
- Schedule and coordinate capital equipment maintenance, repair, and certification
- Coordinate with TCM to ensure adequate tool inventory is in place
- Conduct shift handoff meetings
- Coordinate department personnel schedules, ensuring adequate staffing to support production
- Manage the flow of material in and out of the regrinding area, tracking inventory and recording use in the ERP system
- Create and review preset quality alerts with preset personnel
- Facilitate retraining of preset personnel on an as-needed basis
- Monitor the production floor and set priorities based on needs and planned activity
- Assist with critical tool supply communication to internal team members
- Adhere to internal and customer-specific procedures and processes
- Report and assist with non-conformances, CARs, and continuous improvements
- Maintain safety and good housekeeping standards
- Make decisions within the limits of general standards or procedures
- Report near misses and incidents to the site manager and cooperate with investigations
- Manage Scrap float inventory and scrap items and bins
- Troubleshoot and investigate tool performance issues, excessive repairs, and damages
- Identify and explore ways to effectively implement the principles of lean manufacturing and support a culture of continuous improvement
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- 2-year degree in a related field or equivalent experience working in automotive manufacturing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills has experience in working with MS Office Products
- Knowledge of manufacturing concepts, practices, procedures, and ability to understand and create process instruction sheets
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and with engineers, team members, suppliers, and our customer
- Able to manage union personnel following communication guidelines and procedures
- Proficient at reading and understanding mechanical drawings
- Comply with all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment
- Comfortable with prolonged periods of standing and sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to access, navigate, and work within a manufacturing facility that may or may not be temperature-controlled
- Undergo a background check in accordance with local laws and regulations and successfully pass a drug screening
