Position Purpose
The Tool Room Manager is responsible for leading the tool room operation, team, and systems to ensure tools, equipment, and materials are delivered in a cost-effective, accurate, and reliable manner that supports field and shop productivity.
This role owns team leadership, system performance, inventory strategy, and continuous improvement, while partnering closely with the Tool Room Operations Lead to ensure strong daily execution.
Position Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Culture
    • Lead, coach, and develop tool room team members
    • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings, performance reviews, and development planning
    • Foster a positive, accountable, and service-oriented team culture
    • Address performance concerns, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions
    • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and training
  • Systems & Process Ownership
    • Lead implementation and ongoing management of the tool tracking system
    • Ensure system data integrity and process compliance
    • Develop and maintain SOPs and standard work instructions
    • Optimize workflows (ordering → picking → staging → delivery → returns)
  • Operational Oversight
    • Ensure tool room operations meet service, accuracy, and readiness expectations
    • Partner with the Tool Room Lead to align daily execution with business priorities
    • Monitor order fulfillment performance and address systemic issues
    • Oversee tool room vehicles and trailer management processes
  • Inventory & Procurement Management
    • Manage inventory levels, replenishment strategies, and cycle counts
    • Oversee tool and equipment purchasing and rental coordination
    • Maintain vendor relationships and negotiate pricing, rebates, and agreements
    • Manage tool lifecycle (repair, replacement, warranty)
  • Financial Management
    • Develop and manage annual tool room budget
    • Monitor spend and identify cost-saving opportunities
    • Ensure accurate job costing and tool charge-out processes
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Lead Lean initiatives and process improvements
    • Establish and track KPIs (accuracy, turnaround, availability, utilization)
    • Drive layout optimization and support facility expansion/moves
