Job description

Job Title: Tool Setter

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Location: Cheshire, CT


This role will support our first shift, Monday-Thursday, 5:00am-3:30pm.

Summary: 

This person will be responsible for setting up cutting tools for MAZAK automated line Mill/Turn Machines to perform precision machining operations for high-rate aerospace components. The tool setter will also have the opportunity to cross train in other departments to gain shop wide experience and machining skill set introduction. 


Essential Functions:

  • Reads process sheets, blueprints and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.
  • Installs and preset tooling in tool posts, in sequence specified on process sheet.
  • Depresses buttons, toggles and starts machining operation.
  • Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments.
  • Inspects first-run piece and spot-checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications, using micrometers and precision dial gauges.
  • Studies job packet and organizes materials for next run during automatically controlled cycles to shorten changeover time.
  • Documents the in-process inspection procedures 
  • Inspects and measures parts to maintain statistical process control charts. 
  • May set up and operate another machine tool during automatically controlled machining cycles.
  • May machine non-metallic materials.
  • Perform other related duties or responsibilities as requested or required.


Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Must be a “U.S. Person” as defined by the U.S. Government and able to work without restrictions with ITAR related data.
  • High School Degree or G.E.D (minimum). 
  • 2+ years of CNC machine set up experience or equivalent. 


Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization. 
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and standard business practices. 
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English at a functional level.
  • Ability to travel 5-10% when required.
