Job description

Position Summary

The Checking Fixture Designer is responsible for developing innovative checking fixture designs that satisfy customer requirements while meeting Select Tool's standards for quality, manufacturability, timing, and cost. Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Project Management, you will transform customer requirements into practical, production-ready solutions.

Reports To: Engineering Manager – Checking Fixture Division

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design checking fixtures from concept through final release.
  • Interpret customer specifications and ensure all design requirements are achieved.
  • Prepare complete manufacturing release packages, including detailed drawings, bills of materials, and CMM documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and implement revisions as required.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality to optimize designs for manufacturability, GD&T, and inspection.
  • Manage assigned projects to established budgets, schedules, and quality expectations.
  • Maintain compliance with Select Tool standards, ISO procedures, and company policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing automotive and/or aerospace checking fixtures.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T principles.
  • Experience working with OEM and Tier 1 customer standards is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks is preferred.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes, machining, and fixture construction.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Previous experience in checking fixture assembly, CNC machining, or CMM operation is considered an asset.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical School diploma, Engineering Technology diploma, or equivalent manufacturing experience preferred.
