Department Lead, Assembly


SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Department Supervisor the Department Lead will lead and oversee the day to day activities within their assigned production teams utilizing automated technology, safe work practices, and by taking a holistic pro-active approach to driving excellence. Additionally, the lead will drive work flow in order to meet established productivity targets. This person will need to drive with a continuous improvement mindset and have the ability to gather data to make decisions and solve problems related to safety, quality, and productivity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure all assigned machines and Employees are operating within specified safety parameters. Report any defects to maintenance and management.
  • Monitor levels of materials and/or consumables for upcoming weekly production – notify supervisor of any impending shortages.
  • Work on the production lines for assigned departments.
  • Update shop floor management board with ongoing information and communicate with other departments to confirm consistency between department flows.
  • Assist with conducting communication meetings with employees (such as pre-shift).
  • Respond to minor personnel inquires, escalating to Supervision as needed.
  • Assist the supervisor with driving safety throughout the production floor. Instill safety first mindset within group.
  • Ensure Employees have the proper tools and materials to efficiently and safely perform their work.
  • Consistently achieve all line productivity objectives while minimizing quality or production errors.
  • Ensure lines are staffed based on labor optimization for the production schedule.
  • Be a resource to Team Members with trouble shooting and ability to read/understand/explain technical drawings, reports and work instructions.
  • Assist with new hire training and review weekly training progress.
  • Through collaboration with the Supervisor, identify training needs and participate/advise in cross training needs and efforts.
  • Positively represent and support the Company’s policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate cross departmentally and cross functionally.
  • Participate in continuing improvement projects, 5S and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Additional duties and projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. Technical degree a plus.
  • Ideally 3-5 years manufacturing experience, with ideally 1-2 years in a Leader role.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities sufficient to provide supervisory backup and ability to lead team with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Exemplary Reliability and Attendance.
  • Leadership and integrity; help create/maintain an environment conducive to accomplish metrics and objectives.
  • Customer focus, internal and external.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels in the organization.
  • Have strong computer skills and the ability to learn system process software.
  • Strong presence on production floor continuously driving improvements.
  • Overtime required including occasional Saturdays.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
