Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing laboratory duties that include spinning and reading urines samples and document the test results in the patient's medical record. In addition, the Laboratory Assistant ensures efficient services for the physicians and quality service to the patients in adherence with expectations set by The Conrad Pearson Clinic.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate the ability to draw blood and take vital signs after a four-week training period.
  • Spin and process specimens and ensure they are directed to the appropriate outside laboratory.
  • Clean and check equipment to verify it is functioning properly.
  • Perform quality control measures and equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain the laboratory log and ensure the test results are given to the provider in a timely manner.
  • Familiar with the practices and job duties at the Wolf River Clinic and all outlying clinics and is able and willing to work at these locations as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor, keeping him/her apprised of all pertinent information and provide feedback.
  • Must be able to endure prolonged standing, some bending, stooping and stretching to comply with the essential functions of the job.
  • Ensure compliance for all regulatory requirements including OSHA, CLIA and HIPAA; immediately and accurately document and report occurrences to supervisor; and ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements as outlined in the corporate compliance plan.
  • Support and adhere to all company policies, procedures and management decisions; maintain confidentiality of patients' medical information; and all confidential administrative related issues.
  • Demonstrate dependability in attendance, punctuality in reporting for work and initiative in completing a full work schedule; meeting or exceeding all established deadlines and utilizing all resources and supplies efficiently and appropriately.
  • Demonstrate the ability to concentrate during the course of the day.
  • Display a positive outlook with a helpful, constructive manner when working with other employees.
  • Demonstrate superior patient relations and interpersonal skills; demonstrate an appropriate level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with staff, patients and general public using tact, sensitivity and sound judgment; promote a positive work environment and contribute to the overall efforts of the department and the company.
  • Assist co-workers in clinic; assist with instrument cleaning and/or setup: and assist with procedure set up as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or directed by CPC physicians and Administrative staff.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Two years of laboratory or clinical experience is preferred, preferably in a urology practice.
  • Phlebotomy/venipuncture experience is required.
  • Urine microscopy experience is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, prioritize and complete multiple tasks and demands.
  • Some travel to other offices and locations; must provide own vehicle.
  • Occasional overtime, evening and weekend work is required.
