hundreds of thousands of Denver-area individuals find the courage to move from victim to survivor.

Job Purpose
The primary role of Community Educator is to be an engaging and professional facilitator for The
Blue Bench’s Community Educational programs. Community Educators facilitate programs with a
variety of community partners, including schools, parent/educator groups, service providers, youth
groups, alcohol-serving establishments, people living in incarceration, and workshops open to the
general public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Delivers engaging and culturally relevant educational programs to diverse audiences
across the Denver Metro area, with fidelity.
• Often works during traditional school hours (between 7:30am and 3:30pm) but will also
require some evenings and weekends.
• This is a flexible, hourly position. Community Educators are assigned to facilitate
programs based on the times requested by the school/organization and their personal
availability. After training, this position will spend approximately 90% of the time
engaged in facilitation of The Blue Bench’s educational programming.
• Participates in outreach and community events to increase visibility and understanding
of The Blue Bench’s services and educational programs.
• Advises and implements effective program and curriculum development in
collaboration with Community Education team members to better meet the diverse
needs of the Denver Metro Community.

Requirements:
• Ability to speak publicly and facilitate workshops to large groups of adults and youth.
• Commitment to anti-violence and social change/social justice.
• Flexibility around the scheduling of programs. Due to the volume of multi-session
school-based programs that span consecutive weekdays, candidates must have some
availability on consecutive weekdays during school hours (7:30am-3:30pm).
• Reliable transportation for travel to program locations throughout the Denver-metro
area.
• Access to reliable methods of communication (phone, computer, internet) to
communicate availability and scheduling.
• Ability to pass a fingerprint background check.

Preferred Experience:
• Experience as an educator, facilitator, or trainer.
• Experience working with, and engaging, diverse populations of adults and middle and
high school aged youth.
• Basic knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Programs.
• Ability to effectively respond to, and support, students who disclose an experience of
sexual violence.
• Applicants with fluency in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
• Experience with one, or more, of following areas of education and prevention
programming:
▪ Sexual violence
▪ Youth exploitation and sexual abuse
▪ Domestic violence
▪ Healthy relationships
▪ Sex positivity
▪ Curriculum development

Hours and Training
• Once fully trained, the average number of hours during the school year (September-May) is
15 hours per week. The average number of hours during June-August is 5 hours per week.
• Community Educators have the autonomy to post their availability for each scheduled
program. In most cases, Community Educators are booked for a program one month in
advance. This allows Community Educators to manage their schedules and workload.
• In the first few months Community Educators complete a 50-hour Community Education
training and a 40-hour Hotline Advocacy training. Hours per week may exceed average
referenced above during onboarding. The Community Education training will take place,
based on availability, during June and July 2024. Hotline Advocacy training occurs on a
quarterly basis throughout the year and takes place during the evenings and weekends.

Compensation
Hourly rate of $19.00-$20.00 with a differential for fluent Spanish speakers.
