Preventive Maintenance/Lube/Tire Technician

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Preventive Maintenance/Lube Oil Filter/Tire Technician. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the safety and reliability of our bus fleet and company vehicles through proactive maintenance measures. Strong background in automotive maintenance, particularly with buses or heavy vehicles, and possess a keen eye for detail.

Job duties include performing essential maintenance tasks primarily focused on lubrication and basic vehicle services. Responsibilities include conducting routine oil changes, inspecting fluid levels, replacing oil filters, lubricating chassis components, documenting service records, maintaining a clean work environment, following safety procedures, providing excellent customer service, and staying updated on automotive technology and industry best practices. Applicant must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid CA drivers' license.

Key Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Performs routine and preventive maintenance work on buses, vehicles or other machinery, which may include pumping fuel into vehicles, checking/replacing fluid levels, draining/replacing oil, changing/replacing filters, lubricating mechanical parts, inspecting fuel pumps, inspecting/replacing batteries, replacing belts/hoses, checking tire pressure, changing tires, installing/removing money canisters, etc.
• Performs basic mechanical repairs on buses, vehicles, machinery and equipment, which may include inspecting vehicles, troubleshooting wiring problems, repairing wheelchair lifts, etc.
• Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with servicing, maintaining and testing buses, vehicles and equipment, which may include a bus, utility truck, vehicle lift, wheelchair lift, tire changer, tire balancer, hydraulic jack, air compressor, pressure washer, gauges, mechanical tools, diagnostic instruments, etc.
• Tests machinery, equipment and parts for proper operations.
• Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning vehicles and equipment, cleaning shop and work areas, cleaning bio-hazardous materials from public vehicles, cleaning/organizing storeroom areas, etc.; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
• Initiates requests for new or replacement materials.
• Conducts various errands as needed; purchases or picks up parts/supplies; transports money canisters between department and city financial representatives; transports departmental mail.
• Utilizes safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
• Receives various forms, reports, invoices, receipts, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Prerequisites:

• One year of experience in servicing and repairing motor vehicles in a garage, motor vehicle agency, or other major vehicle repair facility
• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, reach, and work in awkward postures (crouching, kneeling, standing) for long periods
• Able to transport oneself from one work level to another and move materials (tools/parts) from one height to another
• Able to read and write English, good verbal communication skills

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED
• A current and valid California Driver’s License
• Candidates must be able to pass a drug and background check
• Must have ability to obtain a California Commercials Driver's License within six (6) months of employment
