Under the supervision of Advocacy Program Coordinator, the Mobile HMong Advocate is a bilingual position that will provide all supportive services to HMong domestic violence (DV) survivors in the English and HMong language, which includes crisis intervention, case management, peer counseling, safety planning and support group.

Essential Duties
- Provides all programmatic supportive services within the Sacramento, Merced and Fresno regions, which includes: case management, peer counseling and support group, crisis intervention, assistance with DV restraining orders, support with the help line and phone calls when needed.
- Provides accompaniment and advocacy with law enforcement, medical, social services, and other service organizations on a client’s behalf as necessary.
- Provides shelter referrals and advocacy with outside DV emergency shelter programs.
- Provides transportation to clients as needed for medical, Legal services, social service, and law enforcement appointments when necessary and safe.
- Serves as a liaison/advocate between the client and community resources or agencies.
- Maintains the confidentiality of client information included in files, conversations or obtained from written sources.
- Maintain a confidential work space to connect with clients.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED; college preferred;
- 1 to 2 years of working with the HMong community, preferred.
- One-year experience in social services settings, preferably working as an employee or volunteer in providing services
- Must be able to communicate fluently in HMong
Knowledge of:
- Office Equipment Operation (phone, fax, copier, etc.)
- Computers and Software Programs (Word; Excel; Internet);
- Trauma-Informed Care;
- Domestic Violence Counseling and Crisis Intervention and Techniques
Ability to:
- Provide services fluently in HMong
- Be accurate, reliable, punctual, well organized, careful and thorough;
- Communicate effectively orally, electronically, and in writing with individuals and groups
- Converse and translate fluently from HMong to English and from English to HoMng
- Work effectively with limited supervision and foster a team atmosphere;
- Prioritize work and exercise good judgment, schedule and manage workload;
- Demonstrate comfort and expertise in operating computers and other technology;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers and the general public;
- Analyzing facts and exercising sound judgment in arriving at conclusions;
- Prepare concise reports;
- Respond to clients, providing support in a non-judgmental and caring manner.
- Travel between Sacramento, Merced, and Fresno counties.
Physical Requirements:
- Facility to see read and distinguish printed and handwritten documents
- Facility to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone
- Facility to constantly use hands and arms to input data into computer and use adding machine
- Ability to move boxes of files from one location to another; physical agility to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, and to bend, stoop, walk and reach overhead
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Must be able to concentrate for long periods of time
- Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position in an accurate, neat, timely fashion: to make good judgments and decisions; and to evaluate the results of decisions and judgments
Other
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and DMV clearance.
- Must have and maintain current auto insurance.
- Can be depended upon to report consistently to work at scheduled time and is seldom absent from work.
- Notifies supervisor with appropriate notice when absent.
- Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious about assignments.
- Follows instructions, responds to management direction, takes responsibility for own actions, keeps commitments.
