Parks and Recreation Director

The Town of Essex is receiving applications for full-time employment for a Parks and Recreation Director.

This position performs managerial and supervisory work in creating, planning, organizing, budgeting for, and implementing the work of the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department. The Department provides diverse recreational opportunities and is active in all seasons. This position works under the general direction of the Town Manager and Deputy Town Manager to ensure the department provides active and passive spaces, facilities, and programs that enhance the recreational opportunities of the Town of Essex. 

Essex has a robust program offering, a public pool, and a variety of parks, ranging from small pocket parks to natural areas spanning hundreds of acres.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks Management, Business, or a related field; a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification; and five or more years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation management, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity.

The approximate salary range is $78,000-$90,000 per year with the actual starting salary based on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, non-union, exempt position .
