Location: This remote position is open nationwide, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A day in the life of this role: The Senior Data Scientist will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and will work in conjunction with multiple teams. You will lead the management, analysis, and interpretation of complex clinical natural history data associated with deep digital clinical phenotyping, as well as multiomics data including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. You will primarily focus on the study of neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular emphasis on ALS. To excel, you should bring a robust background in data science, statistics, and bioinformatics, coupled with a deep understanding of neurodegenerative diseases and relevant biomedical research methodologies.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Data Management and Sharing:

  • Develop and implement robust data management strategies for clinical natural history data and multiomics datasets.
  • Oversee data acquisition, cleaning, curation, and integration from diverse sources to ensure data quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate data-sharing initiatives and compliance with data governance policies.

2. Data Harmonization and Integration:

  • Lead efforts to harmonize heterogeneous datasets, including clinical, genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data, to enable comprehensive analysis.
  • Develop and apply advanced algorithms and methods for data integration to extract meaningful insights and identify correlations across different data modalities.

3. Data Analysis and Interpretation:

  • Utilize statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze clinical natural history data and multiomics datasets, with a focus on identifying disease biomarkers, prognostic factors, and therapeutic targets relevant to ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis and hypothesis testing to uncover patterns, trends, and associations within the data.
  • Work closely with domain experts to validate findings and translate analytical results into actionable insights for research and clinical applications.

4. Data Presentation and Visualization:

  • Communicate findings effectively through compelling data visualizations, reports, and presentations tailored to diverse audiences, including researchers, clinicians, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to disseminate research findings through scientific publications, conference presentations, and other knowledge-sharing platforms.

What we need from you:

  • 5+ years of proven experience in data science, with a focus on biomedical data analysis and interpretation
  • PhD or equivalent advanced degree in data science, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field.
  • Advanced proficiency in R and/or Python programming, and Linux command line fluency.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage resources like AWS, GCP, and/or Microsoft Cloud.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining techniques applied to complex datasets.
  • Strong understanding of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly ALS, and relevant clinical research methodologies.
  • Experience with clinical natural history data, electronic health records (EHR), and multiomics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with data-sharing policies, ethical considerations, and regulatory requirements in biomedical research is desirable.
