Environmental Specialist

Position Responsibilities

• Helps ensure compliance with all environmental laws and regulations for the Webco Star Center facility.

• Waste Management
  1. Assists with waste stream determinations & disposal approvals for all industrial waste including hazardous and nonhazardous waste.
  2. Helps ensure weekly Central Accumulation Area checklist is completed
  3. Helps ensure waste containers are managed properly and disposed within the regulatory timeframe
  4. Assists with the submittal of the Federal Biennial Hazardous Waste reports (if required)
  5. Helps ensure proper signing of all waste manifests (shipping documents)
  6. Assists with the maintenance of the RCRA Contingency Plan
  7. Reduce or re-allocate waste when possible
  8. Conduct annual training with all plant personnel. Issues toolboxes and training materials as needed.
• EPCRA required reporting for both facilities including:
  1. Assist with the submittal of Annual Tier II reports to LEPC, ODEQ
  2. Assist with the submittal of Annual Toxic Release Inventory reports to EPA
• State Accredited Laboratory:
  1. Assists with the monitoring QA/QC laboratory compliance
  2. Assists with completion of laboratory corrective actions
  3. Assists during State inspections (every 2-3 years)
  4. Maintaining laboratory supplies
  5. Assists to ensure meeting all NELAC standards for General Water Quality Laboratory
  6. Ordering and ensuring completion of Proficiency Testing
  7. Schedule calibration of lab instruments
• Management of industrial wastewater discharges to maintain compliance with POTW permit
  1. Monthly eDMR to ODEQ
  2. Chemical ordering and batch chemical mixtures to meet ODEQ requirements
  3. Minimum of weekly testing of discharge
  4. Assists with the maintenance of the wastewater treatment system
  5. Assists the Carbon Environmental Manager with reporting bypasses or other incidents causing permit exceedances.
• Storm Water permit compliance
  1. Annual reporting on ASCER reports
  2. Conduct annual training session for all plant personnel
  3. Monthly stormwater inspections
  4. Quarterly storm-water grabs and analysis
  5. Implementing best management practices for stormwater
  6. Maintain SWP3
• Management of compliance with all Federal, State, and local requirements for SWT's operating air permit
  1. Assists with the submittal of annual air emissions report to ODEQ
  2. Assists with calculations of VOCS to meet OAC Chapter 37 and 39 requirements
  3. Observes stack testing as required
  4. Assists with Webco's New Source Review program
  5. Assists during ODEQ inspections
  6. Assists with incident investigation during excess emission events.
  7. Assists with annual training
  8. Helps ensure compliance of DX/furnace systems using Cority
• HAZWOPER certified, first to respond to hazardous chemical spills
  1. Contacts spill response contractors
  2. Organizes response and waste handling
• Maintain chemical product compliance
  1. Helps approve all new chemicals and ensure environmental compliance measures are met.
  2. Helps ensure all new chemicals undergo New Chemical Review
  3. Helps ensure chemical information is input into SAP
  4. Relevant chemicals/emissions are tracked in Cority
• Collaborate with Webco's engineering department on equipment modifications, plant expansion.
• Stay up to date with regulatory changes and modify programs accordingly
• Design and conduct environmental training for facility personnel
• Conduct weekly environmental inspections for work centers throughout SWT
• Maintain SPCC plan and conduct annual training
• Help manage the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
  1. Participate in annual audit
  2. Help maintain accurate work instructions and evidence for environmental processes
• Maintain and create PowerPoint presentations
• Conduct monthly Environmental Rep meetings and create and maintain inspections using Cority software

Required Education and Skills

• BS Degree Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering
• MS Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering preferred
• Experience in drafting and interpreting legal text.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus
• Experience in a laboratory setting, including managing a laboratory a plus.
• Able to adapt to high-stress situations quickly, on-call 24/7 for spills and environmental emergencies.
• Highly motivated, personable, flexible, and eager to enhance knowledge and skills through on-going education and development
• Must have the ability to multi-task and focus on work with details
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
• Must be able to work independently, as well as in project team environment
• Must have proficient skills in the use of personal computers including Windows Office applications
• Ability to use a variety of office equipment properly for routine tasks on an as needed-basis, including copy machines, email and central calendar systems
