Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position performs a variety of professional level accounting duties such as preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling complex financial transactions, statements, records, and reports. This position is also responsible for maintaining the accuracy of ledgers and financial systems as well as assisting in the preparation of assigned budgets, annual audit, and year end closing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements, including reconciliations and analysis of AP, AR, investments, fixed assets, accrued expenses, and payroll.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for the Accounting Department.
  • Maintain the Chart of Accounts and the general ledger system.
  • Prepare budgets and conduct periodic analyses of budget variance.
  • Assist in performing pre-acquisition and disposition analysis of investments.
  • Manage and supervise the daily activities of the Accounting Department, ensuring efficient workflow and staffing.
  • Coordinate external audits with property management teams and external firms to ensure compliance with lenders, equity partners, and regulatory agencies.
  • Reviews financial reports completed by accountants and ensures that all deadlines are met within their portfolio.
  • Receive, review, and react as necessary to reports from property level managers.
  • Submit monthly and annual reports to executive leadership. .
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate accounting procedures.
  • Approve operations invoices, expense reports, petty cash, payroll, and activity funds.
  • Oversee year-end reporting for all corporate and investor-owned entities, including annual filings, audits, and tax returns.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • CPA certification preferred, but not required
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience
