Job Title: Planning / Quality Engineer - USA

Responsible to: General Manager

Location: Trussville, AL

Responsible for Interpretation of customer Sales Order requirements and or other documentation to initiate the generation of a Master Process Routings and Master BOM (Bills Of Materials) Raise Purchase Orders and progress their completion with sub-contractors accordingly to fulfil process and material shortfall requirements in a timely manner so to achieve delivery OTIF (On time In Full)

Reporting to the Operations Manager on a day-to-day basis you will also be dotted line reporting to the President/Sales Director.

Quality control - Reporting on the quality of products and/or services throughout all phases of production - Assessing and reviewing all materials provided by suppliers to ensure overall quality. Goods in inspection, Goods out inspection. Leasing with the quality team.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for generating Master Process Routings and Master BOM (Bills Of Materials). Establishing the correct process of manufacture and accurately establishing the labor times for each process. Process will be but not limited to, Cutting, Bending, MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding, Semi-Automatic Robot Welding (MIG), Assembly, Machining and Plasma Cutting.
  • Generating part numbers for components that will be utilized throughout the manufacturing system.
  • Review completed Works Orders, Labor Bookings and Process Routings in comparison to the Master Process Routings and Master BOM (Bill Of Materials). Making the adjustments as necessary for process optimization.
  • Contact as required Sub-Contractors Material Suppliers to ask for RFQ's (Request For Quotation's) and generate appropriate Purchase Orders to cover process activity and material shortfalls mindful at all times of commercial costs. Stive to achieve best price where possible always asking for percentage discount.
  • Responsible for the progressing Purchase Orders placed to ensure deliveries come in to enable the Production teams start work to achieve the defined delivery date and OTIF (On Time In Full).
  • Working closely with the Warehouse & Logistics Coordinator and the Planning & Production Coordinator to support their job function and continuously improve internal processes.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and/or external customers in all areas relating Sales Orders Sales Order changes.
  • Working with the Warehouse and Production teams to ensure all Works Orders have the correct materials issued against them before work commences. Escalate and help resolve as required any anomalies with materials and material kits.
  • Ensure all materials, components and other such items are identified for traceability purposes in-line with the requirements of the Production/Quality system.
  • Ensure the Manufacturing team involved fully understand such processes/activity given to them focusing particularly on SQDCP (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People) requirement.
  • Establish from Works Order booking data Profit and Loss reports.
  • Investigate manufacturing issues and defects to determine root causes, and defines and provides support for corrective actions, determines root causes, and defines methods for resolution.
  • Update CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system to maintain accurate communications with other areas of the company.
  • Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping at all times, both in the Factory and individual workstations.

Health & Safety

  • Report immediately any Accidents, Near Misses or Dangerous Occurrences to the H&S Manager, completing as soon as reasonably practicable documentation of such events.
  • Conduct Safety Inspection and Risk Assessments as required to support the companies H&S policy and procedures.
  • Complete documentation/reports maintaining accurate records of all activities to support the companies H&S policy.
  • Ensuring all workshop equipment and tooling is safe, maintained and accounted for. Any shortfall, complete a Request for Repair/Maintenance Form to support the rectification process.
  • Play an active part in the implementation and CI (Continuous Improvement) of a safe system of work (SSOW) Lock Tag Out (LTO) systems to ensure plant and equipment are isolated and prevented from being used when faults are reported.
  • Ensure machine guarding is not removed and safety devices are not removed or overridden without authorization of the H&S Manager and or Operations Manager.
  • Support by example the Company's No Smoking Policy. Smoking is only permitted in the designated area at the agreed times.

Quality

  • Conduct as and when required First Off, In Process and Final inspection of materials, components, part machined components and other item, signing documentation as required.
  • Report any non-conformances to the Quality Department resulting from any inspections. Holding manufacturing activities, identifying and segregating any items until resolved. Report any down-time to the Production Scheduler.
  • Ensure that all measuring equipment within your area of control is in good order, reporting any faulty equipment, segregating any such equipment to prevent any further use.
  • Shop Floor Support/Training
  • Conduct, assist and or identify training requirements of the team updating training records accordingly.
  • Develop the team by focusing on individual performance and support requirements to achieve a high standard, whilst promoting a culture of working safely.

Qualification/Skills/Experience

  • Similar role within a manufacturing environment - Advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of Production Planning and Production Planning systems - Advantage
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams – Required
  • A mindset to make informed decisions and identify areas for improvement - Required
  • Familiarity with production management software and MRP/ERP systems - Highly Desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners - Required
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment - Required
  • Excellent attention to detail, planning and organization skills - Required
  • Trade school, vocational education, apprenticeship or bachelor's degree - Required
  • Microsoft Suite (word, excel) - Required
  • Experience with reading/interpreting engineering drawings, and process specifications - Required
  • CAD Software proficiency AutoCAD etc. – Advantage
  • Up to 5 years as an Assembly/Production Planner or machine shop experience in the production planning field – Required
