Purpose:
Overnight Instructors are responsible for maintaining a safe and fun environment while facilitating the Education Department’s evening and overnight programming.
Essential Job Functions:
- Lead the Conservation Education Department’s Overnight Programs enthusiastically and professionally with an attention to guest safety.
- Act as the primary point of contact for participating groups, check groups in upon arrival, share safety guidelines, and be prepared to execute emergency procedures as needed.
- Set up for, conduct, and clean up after pre-planned lessons and activities during Zoo Overnight and select evening programs, including crafts, games, Zoo tours, scavenger hunts, snack, continental breakfast, and more.
- Stay overnight in accommodation separate from participating groups while being available in case of emergency.
- Handles and presents Animal Ambassadors to program participants.
- Provides leadership and guidance to supporting Docents and volunteers.
- Provide feedback and routinely communicate with program managers to help refine lessons and program procedures.

- Provides excellent customer service in the areas of guest relations and park beautification:
- Answers visitor inquiries or finds someone who can;
- Is knowledgeable of location of exhibits, restrooms, concessions, rentals, etc.
- Disposes of litter and waste throughout the park and zoo facilities.
Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
Experience working with children and families in an educational setting required. B.S. or B.A. degree in Zoology, Biology, Education or a related field in a zoological park or other informal setting encouraged. Strong organizational and time management skills are required, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work independently and follow safety guidelines with minimal supervision. Demonstrated proficiency with programs, presentation skills and attention to detail are required. Valid Pa driver’s license is required, along with FBI Clearances, PA Criminal History and PA Childline clearances. Position may be physically demanding, requiring traveling through the Zoo grounds with groups.
Physical Requirements:
This position works primarily indoors but also works outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be available to work nights and weekends.
