Job Title: Development Engineer, Flow Control Div.

The Development Engineer will creatively solve problems and develop new solutions in our Pittsburgh, PA Research and Development facility. This individual will provide R&D support to a diverse portfolio of internal and external customers in both North and South America with a focus on new products to grow and protect the business in these regions.

Dimensions of Position:

Must be able to travel to the US, Canada, Mexico, and South America.

  • Schedule: Full Time.
  • Cooperates with account manager and/or product manager to collect background information regarding field failure incidents and analyses samples to determine the root cause post-mortem.
  • Applies process and applications knowledge to correct refractory manufacturing or assembly problems, analyses samples and works with the technical manager and/or process engineers to implement corrective actions.
  • Develops new products to meet regional needs or supports the industrialization and commercialization activities for new products developed by others.
  • This position will help ensure the implementation and success of new product development projects in the Americas regions which determine the value of new products sold each year.
  • This position will help ensure the success of potential cost savings projects, provide recommendations to resolving applications and manufacturing issues associated with existing businesses.
  • Identifies and implements improvements in R&D lab practices and equipment to yield a faster working environment and better-quality R&D results.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred in Material Science Engineering or related Engineering field.
  • Must have a strong technical foundation including thorough understanding of materials science principles and ability to understand and challenge the conclusions of others.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.
  • Must have a good understanding of failure analysis and 8D problem solving
  • Direct experience with refractory products (steelmaking/foundry/glass/industrial products)
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Attention to detail & Analytical thinking

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuously stand, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, push/pull, etc.
  • Walking short distances through the department/building.
  • Use hands/arms to pick and carry product and operate required equipment.
  • Lift objects up to 35 lbs.
